There isnt much you can do to change the fact that In God We Trust in on the money of our country. Its there, deal with it. If you dont know which god its talking about.. then think of your on God and you can decide for yourself. Christianity isnt a religioin, its a relationship with the creator of the universe. You cant help but accept it. I respect everyones believes. but that doesnt mean i think they are right. Our country is on the foundation God, its true, Christians started this country. if you dont like it, dont live in this country.

Just some boring history.

America never started out with 'In God We Trust'
And I won't repeat the other posts/articles I've seen on this site demonstrating that our most prominate Forefathers were Deists at best.

http://www.treasury.gov/education/fact-sheets/currency/in-god-we-trust.shtml

Sorry for the super-long URL link. That's just when it 1st started appearing in US currency. In 1864.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_God_we_trust

It wasn't until very recently..1956, that it officially became the motto of the United States. And then printed on all currency.

I'd rather it be 'In Goodness We Trust' if ya wanna keep it all poetic. 'In Reason We Trust' just sounds rather cold and boring.
E Pluribus Unum was always a good one. Inspires kids to learn Latin and history at the very least. And, and the important part. We're all from different cultures and backgrounds but tend to at least try to get along and assimilate cultures.
I agree with OhHolyInternet on that point. From Many, One. And yes America has alot of problems, but we're trying.

But really..'God' is a rather vague term. Which God? It doesn't specify. Does God have to be male, or do we interpret it in the culture in which it was written, where male words tended to apply to both genders. Or, was God implied to be male by that culture?
And which culture? 1956 or 1864?

Can I hangup posters of Zeus with 'In God We Trust' in a school? Or Vishnu? I love the Hindu's, at least their deities are interesting.
A poster of Venus with 'In God We Trust' on it would certainly raise some eyebrows.

I'm a Pantheistic Humanist. I think people have the power to solve all our problems,so I'm optimistic. We live in an information age and people are beginning to think for themselves(slowly but surely).
I just need to believe in alot of different gods because I tend to curse at them..alot.

It’s just important that our students understand, one, where our foundations are based, and, two, it’s connection to our country."

i wish people would get it through their heads that this country was based on religious FREEDOM, not christianity. If the founding fathers would have wanted religion involved in government, they would have made refrences to devine inspiration in the constitution instead of deliberately leaving it out.

Just glad I got out of the South...they seem to ignore the other motto on our money "E Pluribus Unum" From many-One, we have a lot of religious diversity in this country, if we want unity, we're not gonna be able to support just one God or even a god at all, we're one nation, indivisible (if you overlook all the division in politics, religion, and economic status in America...oh, and the Civil War...) with Liberty and Justice for all (though not if you're the victim of racism in the right circumstances, or the vicitim of someone with a lot of money, or if you're an illegal immigrant, or if you count the 200 years it took to get everyone equal to white men...)

You could have just hung dollar bills on the wall or better yet, pennies. Then take the left over money and feed the poor or something.

Good point.
