"Police in South Florida are investigating a possible hate crime after a "baby Jesus" was stolen from a Nativity scene and other figurines were rearranged to make it look like one of the Three Wise Men was worshipping a sheep."
While I understand that stealing Jesus (sounds funny saying that) is pretty stupid and quite disrespectful, can somebody please explain to me how this is a hate crime? I was under the impression that a hate crime was an act of violence towards another human being or some living creature for that matter. While I find the whole concept of a "hate crime" ignorant, I think this takes the cake. Society has truly gone insane, at least in this country.

Like they say, “Don’t attribute to malice what can as easily be explained by stupidity, drunkness or any other little things”.
I’d say the little Jubus was stolen by something like a 5 years old or some young punk just found it too funny and dumped Jubus in a trash can some time later…
Somehow if it really was a hate move toward christianity, it really could have been better lol.

it is probably a highly religous community that created the nativity scene, and they are using strong emotinal launguage (the term ‘hate crime’ is loaded, especially for those who care about the type of people they are usually commited aginst) to argue their point.
Also, they use this term so that we think about homosexuals getting assulted bodily at the same time that we think about their piece of statuary getting ripped off. Its like when some people refer to others as being ‘Unamerican’ when they do not 100% agree with you about all things.

making yard reindeer appear to be copulating has always been a traditional prank of young guys at this time of year in our neighborhood. while not part of a nativity scene and therefore not religiously significant, it still delights me to see lighthearted pranks.

I remember as a kid when I would see the occasional nativity scene with Mary in a compromising position with the Wise Men. LOL, that was entertaining to say the least… and definitely not a hate crime :)

well, if a “hate crime” is called any time someone says anything nasty about a self-identified minority, if it’s a “hate crime” to take down, adjust or modify posters of a (corrupt) political candidate promoting himself through only racial division, then why not the modification or vandalism of a non-Muslim religious symbol?
But hey, it’s Christian, they’re over-reacting. If it’s black, Muslim, or gay, well-it’s a hate crime.

Yea, “hate crime”? Come on people… don’t we have better things to do than throw a fit over a inanimate object like it was actually Jesus? Let the kids have some fun and steal a baby Jesus or two… at least their not killing people, although that seems to be less of an offense these days… hmmm…
