With Prime Minister Ariel Sharon clinging to life after a severe stroke, many people have expressed sadness while others have expressed something else entirely. Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad hopes Sharon perishes, while Pat Robertson said Sharon’s illness is punishment from God for dividing the Holy Land. By far the most colorful comments came from Abu Abir, a spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees, an umbrella group of Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists when he said, "I am ready with my candies and my rockets and praying to Allah that Sharon dies. We have prepared a celebratory barrage of rockets ready to fire into Israel on the occasion of the death of our enemy."
Now I understand why Arabs wouldn’t care for Sharon too much or all of Israel for that matter, but this is just off the wall. Do these people actually think their situations or their country’s will improve with his death? Sure he was their enemy, but come on. When Bin Laden dies, you won’t see me dancing in the streets or celebrating his death. I’ll just be wondering who the next one will be and go on with my life as most others.
What do you think? Is this an Arab thing or have we all been guilty of this at some time?

More to it
The popular TV Personality said God punished Mr. Sharon, 77, for dividing the land that God gave to the Israelites, and that Mr. Robertson’s own periodic claims to know the Lord’s motivation behind specific events are part of God’s judgment on the American church.
“If Christians would read the Bible, instead of just watching TV, they would understand that people who claim to know exactly why God does what He does are usually false teachers,†said Mr. Robertson. “God disciplines American Christians for their willful ignorance of the Scriptures by having me embarrass them every 60 days or so with another ridiculous remark.â€
Mr. Robertson said that God had judged Ariel Sharon by making him “old and morbidly obese†and thus a high risk for cardio-vascular problems.
“It’s like a lightning bolt from heaven,†he said.

Everybody has been guilty of this at some time. Trust me, I had over 800 people saying “omG KILL THE FUCKERRH” at one point. http://city.xpt.net/ if you wish to learn more on that.

Oh yes… The entire christian faith has been guilty of this. Just to preface I consider myself to be a devout Christian, but definetely on the left wing side of life.
The concept of the holy jihad is actually a retaliation for the holy wars committed against them by the Christian church.
Pope Urban II was responsible for launching the Great Crusades in November of 1095. The song “Onward Christian Soldiers” is about the brave men who went off to war and basically slaughtered millions of innocent men, women and children to get “the infidels out of the holy land”.
This included such great feats as roasting children on spits (some historians contend the children were still alive) and then eating them. But it was all OK because their actions would get them into heaven because good ol’ Urban gave them all indulgences.
So this is not just something from Islam, it’s something Christianity gave them.

Wow… 7 is a bit lacking on sources here. Rev. Sabine Baring-Gould wrote “Onward, Christian Soldiers” early last century. I really doubt that he meant anything to do with the crusades. Usually, the song is taken to refer to Christians and angels fighting the Devil through evangelism, NOT through killing Muslims. Spiritual warfare was a concept from biblical days, and had nothing to do with killing people, but everything to do with killing our sinful nature and being reborn in Christ. Muslim Holy War was first used to justify taking cities in the middle-east for Islam (from Pagans, not Christians). In fact, the crusades were in part a counterattack into lands taken from Christians by Muslims. That said, the methods that were used were certainly not proper Christian behavior.
Furthermore, the crusades were mostly a misuse of God’s name by leaders in order to gain power and fame. The Bible certainly would not have sanctioned such behavior.
