Over the last five days in Nigeria, at least 138 Christians and Muslims have killed one another over the infamous Mohammed caricatures. Muslims from the north incited the violence several days ago by killing more than 50 innocent Christians and burning down several churches. In good Christian fashion, the response was swift and equally pointless. Christians torched Mosques, homes, and scores of Muslims. The weapons of choice were machetes and cutlasses.
Take a look at the pictures below and keep in mind what started this. I don’t know much about the history of Nigeria, but I’m willing to bet that they would be better off without religion as would most places. Over the last several years, I’ve seen religion as nothing more than a collection of gangs. Think about that for a little bit and you’ll see the similarities. I’ll delve more into that in a dedicated article I’ve just started and will share with everyone soon.

i wonder if the really know why they react like they do. killing lots of people seems to me like a big step from making demonstrations.

It’s not so much the religion part of the whole thing, but the organized part.
February 23rd, 2006 at 8:06 pm
No, it’s definitely the religion. I’m very organized and have yet to engage a primeval, bloodthirsty rampage against life and all that is good in the world, nor do I commit multiple mindless evasions of the facts of reality EVERY FUCKING DAY OF MY LIFE AS A MATTER OF HABIT.
SAY IT: “RELIGION IS CANCER, RELIGION KILLS” REPEAT. DIE.

Your comparison of religion with gangs is very appropriate. People will do stupid, stupid things when drunk on mob thought.

It’s sweet to see that they are killing off each other.
Just grab some popcorn, lean back and enjoy the show!

Its entirely the Moslems. Examine their history of conquest and conversions at swordpoint plus their insistence we conform ourselves to sharia law in our own country never mind the zero amount of tolerance they show to other faiths with in their OWN countries the reality becomes clear. They are never going to stop their violence and sit around singing koombayah the sooner you realize your in a fight whether you wanted it or not the better. Don’t wait till your braying on a prayer rug so they don’t hack your head off.

In Africa they never get along, this is not an issue of religion, its more of a tribal thing in my opinion.

To ask the Muslims to reflect on why they are perceived as evil by humanity is an exercise in futility. Not since Hitler’s Germany has there been as great a threat to civilization. There is no silver lining here.

seriously? you think organized religion is nothing more than gangs and mobs? You think the 12 disciples that followed Jesus were nothing more than a “gang” or an angry mob?
This is a social issue, kids see other people doing it…half the people out there are 20years old. It’s not an issue of religion. I’m not up to par on Muslim faith, but for a Christian to act this way is an obvious sign that they haven’t accepted Christ into their lives and therefor shouldn’t be referred to as “Christians” - all it’s doing is making a bad name for both religions.

Hh yeah, “They’re not REAL christians.”
That’s what christians always say when christians get caught doing what christians do.

“That’s what christians always say when christians get caught doing what christians do.”
That’s what skeptics say whenever Christians try to explain why Christians can get it wrong sometimes (not that I believe the “Christians” in these massacres are really Christians). All it does is display willful ignorance of what true Christianity is (ie. being a follower of Christ, as “haha” alluded to). Don’t judge the truth of Christianity on the behaviour of its supposed adherents… read the scripture for yourself or talk to a Christian who can help give you an idea of what it’s really about.

“That’s what skeptics say whenever Christians try to explain why Christians can get it wrong sometimes”
How often is this “sometimes”? You mean, when Hitler killed the Jewish people in the name of Christianity? Or when Utah keeps bringing up Creationism in the classroom as “science?” Or are you referring to the KKK in the United States? You know, if the vast majority of the followers of an ideal are moral-less/blind one way or another, then I think it’s time to stop blaming the individuals and instead just let that ideal go. At least then they won’t have one common banner to cause trouble under. It is easier to defeat a group separated than a group united.

I guess I was trying to make a very specifically targeted point, before. That is, that the truth (or otherwise) of an ideal is independent of the behaviour of its supposed adherents. So, what I’m suggesting is that the disgusting behaviour of the Hitlers, KKKs, Fred Phelps’ and (insert your favourite tyrant/cultist/etc. here) of the world has no bearing on the truth and reality of what Jesus Christ said and did. I mean, if I slaughter people, and then tell others that I’m doing it under the banner of the teachings of the great prophet “ignorant”, I’m assuming that I’d be doing you a great injustice and misrepresenting your own actual ideals.
Creationists often love to tell the story of how Darwin “recanted evolution on his death-bed”, and that therefore evolution is false. Whether or not that’s a true story, it’s another example of what I’m saying - even if it IS true, it would have nothing to do with the truth (or otherwise) of Darwinism! Maybe Darwin went mad on his death-bed? Maybe he was delusional? Even if he said that (which is unclear but doubtful), it has nothing to do with what the truth actually is. So, in the same way, I would urge you to examine the claims of Jesus for yourself… don’t make up your mind solely based on the latest Christian beat-up in the mass media (not that you necessarily have).
I see the point you were making, but I guess I’m saying that the thing you’re urging people to let go of (ie. a Christian ideal that results in Hitler, KKK, fundamentalism etc.) is NOT Christianity. The ideal you are referring to is 0% Christian, except by name. No, true followers of Christ are still not perfect in this life, but the behaviours manifested by the parties you listed are not at all produced by the person of Christ - they’re produced by selfish people who hide behind an imaginary, bastardised Jesus so as to deflect their own guilt.
That said, it is so sad that so many of us who claim to represent Christ are all talk and no action these days - particularly in the West (myself included). We’re real good at talking and identifying problems in the world, but then we don’t bother to do anything about it. It’s not really any wonder that there is so much skepticism about the relevance and worth of Jesus: after all, Jesus himself said that the world would know us (Christians) by our love. We come up so short in that regard, very often.

To be muslim or christian does not mean to kill everyone in site. Both religions are peacful by nature but allow a few exteme leaders to set them in the wrong direction. To say Religion is cancer is like saying breathing is bad for you. To be a member a responsible member of a religous group is to know when to say no to your leaders when what they ask you to do somthing that is against the true teachings of GOD or Mohammad. Christains and Muslums need to stop trying forcxe there religion down each others throats and live together respecting each others customs of practice. Nigeria is only one of many areas of the world where this problem causeing loss of life!!!!!
May all of us look deep inside our hearts and know what is right and wrong in dealing with the future destruction that will soon be at hand if we cannot learn to get along!
Thank You

I support the notion that religion is a sort of cancer. Not so much personal religion, but organised religion. It takes away self-responsibility and replaces it with fatalism, with group mentality and with the mass heardings of a few people’s ideas into a bigger action base.
Even if the actions of the above groups are not by true members of their faiths, those particular religions have given them the ammunition and banner under which to unit in gang mentality.

I AM AN X GANG MEMBER IVE HURT PEOPLE SHOT PEOPLE,AND EVERY OTHER HORRIBLE SIN LISTED. JESUS SET ME FREE. I HAVE LOVE IN MY HEART FOR EVERY ONE, SO FOR ANY PERSON TO CALLED CHRISTIANITY A GANG YOU HAVE NO BASIS OR TOUCH ON REALITY ITS PURE REBELLION ON YOUR OWN BEHALF AND HATRED FOR WHAT YOU REFUSE TO LOOK INTO FOR YOURSELVES SO GOD HELP YOU ALL THAT REFUSE TO ACCEPT THERE IS ONE GREATER THAN YOUR SELF. “MANS WISDOM IS FOOLISHNESS IN GODS EYES”. THATS WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS. WE BASE OUR ARGUMENTS ON WHAT WE HEAR AND NOT WHAT WE LEARN ABOUT THE TRUTH. USE THE MIND AND LEARN BEFORE YOU SPEAK. I KNOW GANGS AND CHRIST IS NO PART OF A GANG, BUT A FAMILY OF BELIEVERS WHO LOVE AND WANT NOTHING MORE THAN OTHERS TO HAVE PEACE AND ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS. “I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME.” JOHN 14:6 PLEASE LOOK FOR YOURSELVES AND EXAMINE YOUR OWN HEART ASK GOD TO PROVE HIMSELF WHO HE IS. ITS NOT A MATTER OF WHO DID THIS AND WHO DOES THAT ITS WHERE WILL YOU STAND WHEN YOUR LIFE ENDS. YOU ALL HAVE A CHOICE CHOOSE WISELY!

“I HAVE LOVE IN MY HEART FOR EVERY ONE”
and for the Caps Lock Key, apparently…
Now to the content of your post:
The only source that you base your “TRUTH” on is the Bible. That book is not recognized as infallible by many people.

The problem with religion is that it gives people a vehicle to commit good deeds and evil deeds, which ever way they choose to use it. They hide behind it and use it for justification. And yes, you can read a verse in the bible and somehow justify why you killed someone. Therefore, based on that fact alone, the World would be much better off without religion. When the day comes that people take personal responsibility for their actions and stop hiding behind a religion or philosophy that propelled he or she to do it, then we have come one step closer to self actualization, and hopefully the end of the biblical age. Right now we are way behind where we should be, and religion has caused much more problems in the world than any good it has done.

For those above that want to say anything positive about Christianity; I am european. We had religion, science and a well developed pegan society. Then christianity came, murdering our culture and our way of life. Complete genocide. So yes, ALL religion does the same. It is merely a tool to oppress, and kill. The world should be freed from religion.

it seems to me that islam is now so far removed from reallity thar it has become dangerous and no tolerance should be shown towards it in any free democracy or it will cause untold trouble for future generations, islam has one objective and thats the eradication of western values which or forefathers fought and died to preserve and for what so spineless politicians can bend over backwards and appease these neolithic savages
