A lot of crazy people rise through the ranks just because they're religious. If you look at his audience, it's a bunch of fully covered women and bearded dudes. There are lots of Iranians who think these people are nuts, so this dude is definitely not representative of all. Full disclosure: The Islamic revolution basically turned me against Islam. After looking into other religions, I realized the all basically said the same stupid shit. The success of Christianity is that most people ignore most of it and focus on the feel-good crap. Islam is still focusing on the crazy shit (a la the Dark Ages for Christianity). Having said all that, to get back to topic, I never thought Jerry was cute. He annoyed the crap out of me.
