WARNING: This post is nothing more than a rant. The sole pupose of this piece is to share my honest opinion without logic and/or reasoning :)
Itanshi, one of Religious Freaks finest citizens, sent me this link on Friday. Go ahead and take a peek, I’ll wait. For those too lazy to look, it’s a photo of the Iranian woman playing rugby. What I find absolutely absurd is their attire. These women are playing rugby in Tehran with full oppressive female Islamic attire including the hijab to cover their head. Mind you their wearing dark clothing and this is Iran, where temperatures get over 100F regularly.
Now this got me thinking about my trip last winter to an indoor water park. It was a real fun place, several water slides, an area for the kids, and one of those lazy rivers where you just float around on an inner-tube and relax. To make a long story short, my family and I were heading over to the lazy river, when I saw one of the most ridiculous sights. There in front of me was a young Muslim girl covered from head to toe in the traditional Islamic garb. Now you have to picture dozens of kids running around in bathing suits laughing, screaming, and having a blast. Then here’s this Muslim girl sloshing through the water with 20 pounds of wet clothing. Judging by the look on her face I could tell she just wanted to rip that hideous thing off and run free like everyone else… it was priceless!
Honestly, this whole Islamic dress code is just stupid, especially when it comes to sporting activities. Take a look at these pictures and tell me why I’m wrong… please!

That is an interesting point. Now I know it is religious as well as cultural. After all, covering up to levels like that of the ‘Islamic’ ware were around in Athens I think.
Perhaps the religious bit was fueled by the cultural bit, but that’s not a fight I’m going to wage.
Melissa: I am glad you find it awful to force it upon people, that is essentially the beef of most here. However, your point of solitude is an entirely mental thing, indeed, they would get no special attention if they went to a country where it was allowed, but in Islamic cultures, it is a very unusual thing, so those that go without are noticed and payed attention to, and so quickly decide to cover up again. It is somewhat self -perpetuating.
–End–
i just think ur a narrow minded fool!.. when u wear short necked tops with your boobs poping out and a short skirt flashing ur arse no one says anything to u!! so why dont u just back off and let hijaabiz wear what they want. in the pictures they look as though they are enjoying themselves. atleast they respect their body not like u!
you are a stupid fool am 11 and i go swiming in feverything even the face covering and i was not even born into islam i became muslim we i was 4
What one wears and not wears is the person’s private affair. If someone goes nude in public, people stare. If someone wears hijab in public, people stare.
Why can’t people wear what they like and stop caring about what others are wearing?
if someone wants to swim naked, it is his or her own choice. If someone wants to wear clothes while taking a bath, it is his or her own choice.
What is the big issue?
Again, I think the major issue in this debate is a lack of information. Yes, in some countries (eg. Saudi Arabia and Iran) women are forced to hijab– and that is terrible. This is because these countries are run by a conservative theocracy– further proof that countries run by theocracies are implictly unfair as according to the laws of their religion. (Religion has no place in government).. That said, women who wear the hijab in most other countries do so by choice– just as some women choose to wear long pants/skirts because they don’t like showing their legs in public. Many of them wear colorful or decorative ones, and choose them fashionably as a woman would any other accessory. Again, the point is to force you to look at who they are as a person rather than what they physically look like.
As a non-muslim woman, I think the ideology behind it is wonderful– because our culture has oversexualized and objectified women to sell everything from lingerie to toothpaste.
And in response to a previous comment: Yes, solidarity is a state of mind; which these women hope to achieve my wearing hijab. They maintain this by not having to worry about recieving unwanted whistles or men contemplating their behinds or the size of their chests. (While I am not implying all men behave in this manner– I know many who don’t– but men don’t go to ‘Hooters’ to listen to the women talk or to get to know their personalities.) It is liberating– to know you are more than the lipstick and panty-lines our culture teaches young girls to obssess on.
The point is, women can dress however they want. Hijabs aren’t hurting me– and I highly doubt they are hurting any of you either. Hijabis (the girls who wear hijab) want to be thought of as people, rather than sexual objects. They aren’t forcing any other woman or man to be modest– or valued for their personality over body.. but maybe more people should follow their example.
Oh, and if you are so offended by hijabs– are you equally as offended by baseball caps, bandanas, or (for that matter) chemo patients wearing hats/scarved to cover their heads?

asalamu alaikum (hello) i dnt think its crazy any1 can play sports me myself loves tackle football and i wear a hijab
I am offended by any clothing which hides the identity. I rather see whom I am talking to than guess to whom I am talking to.
It also has been ingrained into me, covered face equals crime, attempted crime or other potential criminal activity. Arrest and question those who try to hide their identity.
Jaganath, I think I would consider that your personnel opinion, becasue I don’t think other people would mind that.
Again– misinformation.. “hijab” means to dress modestly and is often used to describe the headscarf. This does not include convering your face (and I have a hard time believing your identity relies entirely on others seeing your hair). (By the way, “niqab” is covering the face.) I do think that covering ones face can cause problems in the type of society we live in (where you interact with many different people on a given day)– which is why people who cover their faces are required to show them for their driver’s photos and to verify their identity before voting. I think these are reasonable concessions- which most niqabis (women with covered faces) are happy to make.
While I can understand why you would have a cultural connection between face covering and robbers– part of living in the world that we do is leaving to break through our preconcieved notions and growing to be better people for it.
So, next time you see a niqabi or hijabi- just ask them your questions. Often, they are happy to help you understand.
Oh no! Religious people. Join the Masonic Temples and bar religions. Paradox?

Atheist. Go for it. That’s the best thing about the internet, nobody forces you to read anything. Now if you’re willing to have a meaningfull discussion, instead of speweing uneducated insuls, you’re welcome here. otherwise, you free to open your own blog. I might even drop a few replies there.
As for your “argument”
Give me two good reason reasons why I should respect religion? It’s done nothing but bad for society and humanity in general.
Great info here. I am still looking for more data on natural health and would appreciate any advice. Thanks a lot!

coupon. Home Depot coupons can be used at Lowe’s also.
I have discovered that intelligent real estate agents just about everywhere are getting set to FSBO Marketing. They are acknowledging that it’s more than merely placing a sign in the front yard. It’s really with regards to building human relationships with these vendors who sooner or later will become buyers. So, after you give your time and efforts to assisting these dealers go it alone — the “Law involving Reciprocity” kicks in. Interesting blog post.
I would like to show my appreciation for your quality article. Your original content has given me reason to think about a lot of this information. Your writing style is original and engaging. Thank you.
