This morning while researching an article, I came across some very troubling information indeed. I share this knowledge with great trepidation knowing that many child memories will be shattered.
Like many kids growing up in the 80s, I too watched many icons on television and the big screen. The big three were Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and Chuck Norris. These men single-handedly rid the world of bad guys and rescued the good ones. Each could seemingly survive on stink and sweat alone, lay waste to vast armies, and yet still find time for a little romance.
But all good things come to an end and this is no different. Schwarzenegger took to politics… Stallone slowly faded away… and Chuck, well Chuck is busy trying to put Bibles in public schools. WTF!!!
Chuck is on the Board of Directors for the National Council On Bible Curriculum. There goal is to put a state certified Bible class in every public highschool to better educate today’s youth.
Damn, that’s just like a stake through the heart of 13-year-old gasmonso. Really, it’s like I just found out I was adopted and everybody else new all along. I weep openly and I ask why Chuck. Why?

I think it’s a great idea. After all, they’re suggesting the Bible be taught legally as literature/history. So why not?
Let’s begin by looking at the creation myth and compare it to various other creation myths. Next, we’ll look at the genocide we find detailed in the Old Testament. After that, a bit of time in the prophets would show how the fantasy genre is actually an ancient form. Finally, we’ll look at the New Testament and the contradictory teachings we find there on grace and works.
If we do our job right, our kids will come out of the class realizing that the Bible is a ridiculous bunch of fairy tales. Sounds great to me.
In all seriousness, I have no problem with it provided (and that’s a big “provided”) the class also looks at (as literature/history, of course) the Koran, the Vedas, the Tripitaka, _Dianetics_ and the _Book of Mormon_.

Unless it’s a class on religion in general, not propaganda, I don’t think it’s a good idea. The schools already appear to be incapable of putting out thinking citizens as is. On the other hand I wanted to gouge my eyes out when I was forced to read ‘The Great Gatsby’ in school. Trust me no student will ever willingly read a bible. I’ve tried and tedious doesn’t begin to describe it.

I liked the Great Gatsby… but then again, I was a literature student ;)
The idea of studying religion in general seems dodgy but ok to me… the problem being that to teach something like that you’d need extra qualifications. Otherwise you’ll probably just have some christian fundie preaching about the bible.
As for Chuck Norris, for shame. Public schools are secular and non-biased, that is why we have private schools.

The only “Bible” that needs to be read is “The Tao of Jeet Kune Do” by Bruce Lee. Guess Chuck Norris had thirty odd years to come up with his own philosophy and came up empty. Or maybe all the “one inch” punches he received from Bruce Lee to the head during filming of “Return of the Dragon” finally is revealing themselves.
Remember Bruce’s wise words: “Man, the Living creature, the Creating individual, is always more Important than any established style or system.”

Cue Chuck facts in three…two…
I’m all for religion in schools (strange as that may sound.) As long as it is, like Eliot and Gary said, about the phenomenon religion and thus objective, instead of someone preaching.
I went to a christian highschool (it was the closest and frankly the best school) and my religion classes were totally objective and I really feel like i learned something from them. What’s wrong with that? If we can better learn to understand each other, shouldn’t you give Chuck some credit?
however, as this is called bible curriculum, you probably can’t expect anything even close to open-mindedness.

I am a Christian. I watched the video clip provided (Chuck and his wife) and went to the site Curriculum site.
It looks like the Bible Curriculum people have the constitutional right to do what they are doing. I’m not sure how effective it will be but that’s another matter.
What strikes me as “Freaky” is Chucks quote in the video, “we can change the course of our county…and God knows we need it”. This quote coming from a guy who stared in movies like “Hellbound” and “The Hitman”. Not exactly the poster child for “Family Values”.
Chuck needs to stick to what he knows best, kicking ass, killing bad guys and pushing fitness equipment.

Why chuck why? Who is going to stop the evil priest who is brainwashing the people of (insert little unknown village here) into trying to walk on water now?
On a more serious note though, if the bible is just studied as some literature/history, so be it, but hey let’s also include the quran when studying middle east, buddah’s teachings when studying the far east and all the other numerous religions. There has to be a line somewhere, and as soon as we start teaching one religion at school all the other religions will start crying “me too, this is descrimination!”
As for myself, the first school i visited after moving to israel was a little moslem school in my moslem village(me being the moslem i was back then) i didn’t mind the religion lessons although they were the most stupid, boring and useless lessons we had. it was a great relieve when at high school i moved to a private school owned by a christian priest, although the school was christian there was NO religion being taught there, and the priest knew more about islam than i did(me being the agnostic i was back then.) Obviously he sometimes said things that moslems wouldn’t exactly like(”god created us like himself/at his image”) but those were minor slips, he used to quote both religions as often as he could.
Now chuck take that bible and teach it to your little children at home, every family can teach their own religion if they care so much. it would be violating the rights of all other religions to have only one taught at school.

I pretty much doubt that, if they want to push Christianity in public schools. However, I can’t be bothered to check up on it as public schools cesspools of loser creation (hey, I went to a public school and look at me). Add organized religion and you take a bad thing and make it worse.
Funny, while I am not spiritual at all I find spirituality to be a good thing, but then people take it and warp it into this assinine concept like all the major religions. Do these people have any idea how stupid they sound? Its actually pretty hilarious, they all think they are right and they are pretty much all mutually exclusive. They can’t ALL be correct, so either they are all wrong (and my money is on this) or there are a LOT of people that are going to be disappointed in the afterlife.
I am not suprised about this. Why should I? People are always finding religion for ridiculous reasons, and a lot of people believe in the happy unicorn (generic label for their lord and savior) and want to use their fame to promote their little piece of insanity.

Most of you are blind to the fact that God chose Chuck to come to Him and opened his eyes to his sin. What keeps you from coming to Christ. Is it your love of the world? My lost Father, secularism, evolution, amd your world wiew are just reasons to deny that ther is a hell. There are many religions but only one that dies for its savior. No wonder, He died for sinners like me and you and the world. Dare I put up the series of quotes from the bible in which it clearly states that the signs of the end times and the coming of the Kingdom of the Lord would all happen during the lifetimes of the listeners? I’ve done it on a couple of articles already.

You seem to think that I should be afraid of some kind of hell, when every bit of logic tells me that it does not exist. All the time you spout your message, you never once begin to accept the fact that it might not be real. I think you are more afraid that there is nothing when you die, and that you got yourself through your drug problem, not god. So you don’t just hope… you believe. Personally, I HOPE that one day man or man’s machine will be able to bring back all of those who have died in one form or another, but i do not believe it. I do not know that it will happen… in fact, I highly doubt it will. Because I hope, and not believe, it doesn’t effect decisions in the life I am leading now. That is the problem with believing things you can’t proove.
If there is some kind of god, (and there isn’t… there just isn’t) then I’d have no reason to be afraid of going to hell. It is one thing to believe in an afterlife as a crutch, but to be so naive as to think that unless someone accepts exactly what you believe, they will be tortured for all eternity, is downright sick.

I can only really speak for myself, but I belive most of us find bible verses quite hilarious in context, but when quoted by someone trying to have a discussion on the merits of religion, it comes off as really very sad. All I see is someone who either was born and raised in that garbage and never really had the spine to make a decision for themselves, or they got themselves into some trouble (prisoners), fell down hard and had trouble getting back up (drug addicts, alchies, etc) and needed a crutch. And poof, there is this mythological god in your time of need.

See, the problem is that any assertion you make, is going to be a tautology. You will state from the Bible an assertion, and expect it to be disproven by the bible. You can’t get peer review that way. You have to be open to other sources of data besides your own. To have a little fun with this concept, let us say…
Assertion:Humanistic Jones says the Sky is orange and says that he is correct.
A)The bible is correct because the bible claims to be correct. (Given)
B)The bible was writen by humans. (Given)
C)Through substitution, Humans are correct because humans claim to be correct.

Atheliets thanking god for their victory would be like me thanking Buddah for my ability to program at work. Did they not spend time training for that moment? Did they not work hard for that day? No shame in taking a little credit there. Also, when I was on sports teams as a child, even when I was still Christian, it always creeped me out when the coach started praying for the team, kinda made me feel like he had no confidence in us if he had to ask god for a win.

I think you are just being thick here but whatever. The belief itself is a crutch, but it has no bearing on them “thanking god”. I have no idea why they do that, maybe they feel its the socially acceptable thing to do, maybe they believe it. If YOU believe that god had anything to do with them winning and not the other 4 christians running alongside them or whatever, then what can I say? I think that is ridiculous. Why would god give a damn whether that guy wins or not. What happens when the christian guy loses to the athiest? Do christians always win sports over athiests, muslims, buddists? …and yes I know I broke the law of Transferance of Universal Affirmatives (All wood burns, states Sir Bedivier, therefor he concludes all that burns is wood) in that one, but it was a fun little exercise. The point really was that asking a person to debunk the bible with the bible is like asking someone to debunk Origin of the Species using Origin of the Species… oh wait, Origin of the species doesn’t contradict itself on a regular basis.

Remember, God sent Christ into the world to die for sinners. That is the real story of Christmas. Not the Jews or Romans but He died for His people. who are His people? Paul said about 2000 years ago that he was not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God to all who believe. To the Jew first and the Greek or now the gentile. You are deaf and yet think you hear. Isaiah said this in old testament and it was fulfilled in new testament for most of the religios leaders hated Christ.

I urge you as a friend to flee to Christ and stop living for yourselves. 1 Corinthians speaks about murderers adulterers fornicators thieves jealous hatefull people and reminds them how they became new creatures in Christ. I hope God convicts you that He is right and i am just a followere of truth and still a dirty rotten sinner but saved by His grace and no more a slave to sin. You can be free to. Read His word, not the old testament. You will get bored. That comes later. Read the Gospels which open up the lives of some fisherman, corrupt leaders, and a man from galilee who claimed He was the Son of God. Sorry for the length but to important to leave out. I hated God once but 10 years later after a faithfull and real christian told me about Christ, God showed me Himself through reading Mathew and as a Jew I was amazed that this was never taught to me and my old buddies who were gentiles didn’t believe this stuff even though they wore crosses like some rock or bebop stars where. But unless you are born again you cannot and willnot enter the Kingdom of God. May God call all of you nowm Today not some other time when you are old but today if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts. Too bad those souls in torment cant come back to tell you the truth found in the book of hebrews that it He has appointed a day that all men and women shall give an account. No one will be left out.

Please accept that just about everything I’m about to say here probably isn’t for you Doug. You seem to have a pretty strong conviction, so I doubt any amount of explaining and illuminating is going to sway you in any way, but there are some serious chinks in your armor of absolute truth that I as a Critical Deist must poke at. If anything I’m just showing the holes for those new to the cause of Humanism and reason that need to see the good arguements to hold up against the monolithic belief-machine that is the church.

Wisdom, from its grecian archetype as gnosis, is the deep understanding of the inner self as it relates to the world. It is achieved by introspection, self-analysis, and testing our selves and our beliefs against the world. It is not gained by turning to an outside source. The best you get there is knowledge, or logos, the worst you get is lies and deception.

Believing in God gives the person psychological rewards in the here and now. It gives them an “identity.� I believe this as
oppposed to that, therefore, I’m not that. Ask a person “who are you?� and if they answer “Christian� it means they are
not anything else, a pyschological boundary for the “self�. Christians NEED non christians for existence, like the KKK
need niggers to have something to focus on. Without opposites they won’t exist, light exists only if there is darkness. So
both are required. Believing in God also alleviates the FEAR of death, tell yourself a lie to help cope with all our destiny.
It also provides COMMUNITY a group of people doing and behaving alike, especially comforting for people without
sense of self. Also provides excuse for IRRESPONSIBILTY, if you let GOD control your life you don’t have to be
responsible for anything in your life. Success or failures are all the workings of GOD. It allows adults to remain
psychological children, behaving morally only when God is there to reward or punish. Because without God, ALL
Christians cannot control themselves, they will give in to their basest desires and be hedonistic and live only for today.
Without God, they will express themselves exactly the way they want, only with God can they pretend to keep it under
control. It gives them a sense of MORAL SUPERIORITY, and that strokes the ego well. It gives them a sense of
CERTAINTY, even if that certainty is a lie, because a lie is better than an uncertain truth for insecure people. And since
God isn’t REAL enough for Christians, they need to attack anything that threatens to make God even less real. If they
KNOW God as well as knowing their own face, then nothing could make them NOT believe, but Christians never talk
about DIRECT experience of God, only what they IMAGINE what God is like from reading the Bible. So they are
really worshipping figments of their imagination from their own particular way of interpreting the Bible and influenced by
their particular branch of interpretation, be it Catholic or Mormon or whatever.
On the flip side, believing in Evolution provides none of those psychological rewards. Knowing we came from monkeys
and apes doesn’t help with day to day living and coping with stress and fears. So to defend their coping mechanism for
life, Christians and all “Faith based religions� must deny anything that threatens that mechanism. Including denying reality,
scientific observation, geological and fossil records, astronomy, biology, chemistry and physics. Deny all that, but accept
the Bible as “Truth.� Because the Bible is limited, so many pages and so many words, can be handled by insecure
people, they can see the boundaries. But REALITY as observed by science is OVERWHELMING for the Christian.
Just the size of the Solar system in comparison to one person renders that person so miniscule, the size of the galaxy and
the universe just blows the mind. So to avoid the reality of their insignificance in the universe, Christians need to believe
that they are somehow special and chosen by the creator of the universe.

Christian faith is based on the assumption of a “soul� is it not? What exactly is the soul? How does it manifest itself? Is it
memory? behaviours? thoughts? All those things are changeable, therefore, the soul is not a “permanent entity�. Where
does the soul reside? Within our physical bodies? So what happens when an accident removes an arm or a leg? Does
the soul shrink? Is the soul in the heart? So what happens to heart transplant patients? In the brain? So where was the
soul at the moment of conception when the human was only two cells, mommy and daddy cells. Does the soul enter the
body after conception? What about invitro fertilization? Frozen embryos can be delayed growth into humans by keeping
them in the freezer. So what is the soul doing all that time? If the soul resides in the “spiritual world�, does it have
boundaries? Can one soul contaminate another? If a Christian is saved, can a non Christians evil condemn his soul? If it
can, then salvation is not possible until ALL are saved, because one unsaved soul can “Re sin� the saved soul. If souls
have boundaries, that is, a soul is a separate entity from another, only then can the person claim responsibity for his
particular soul and seek salvation for his particular soul. If that is the case, than Original Sin does not matter. Adam’s sin
cannot contaminate my soul. His sin resides within his soul, how can it contaminate mine? But “all have sinned� so the sin
is passed through the genes? Or through the soul. Which means the soul does not have boundaries which means I can’t
really be responsible for my soul’s sin, because the sin is someone elses’s. And therefore, I can’t really seek salvation for
my particular soul.
Where in the Bible does it say you have a soul? As a permanent entity that continues after death? If there is no soul
then salvation is not necessary for nothing has sinned, and Jesus and God are unnecessary because there is nothing to
save. If you say the soul exists because Jesus saves it, it’s like saying you are guilty just because a cop arrests you. Cart
before the horse.
So, Christians, instead of telling about your experiences of God, how about describing something even more intimate and
knowable for those of us who are atheist or agnostic. Describe your “soul” and all of its manisfestations. If you say it
is a feeling, non Christians have “feelings” too. And even feelings are temporary and changeble.

Would you mind explaining to me what a soul is supposed to be? Is it some sort of eternal essence attached to your meatsack that will be eternally punished or rewarded for the actions of the meatsack? Do you not see how stupid the very concept of a soul is? If a soul were to be eternally punished or pleasured for the actions of a meatsack then surely it must have some sort of influence on the meatsack, but this can never be proven, and all the evidence seems to show otherwise. People are products of nature and nurture.

I see you are all writing a little different now that you read about a God who loves and keeps sinners so that they can repent. Who knows who God will choose but that is not important. It is His revealed will that is vital to our never dying souls. Forget about gnostics and humanism and all the things you learned in college. One day we will all give an account. Are you ready now. Remember, today is the day of salvation. We dont know what a day may bring. The worst thing that can happen is not an attack from religious zealots who by the way moderates are fed up with. But christianity is th only faith where we dont trust in our good works but realize it was Christ who gave himself to be hung on a roman cross and then to cry out My God, My God, Why Have you forsaken me? The punishment of eternal damnation for millions throughout time was laid upon Jesus. Isaiah53 clearly prophesied this in the old testament of the suffering of Christ. The book of Romans leaves us without excuse. We are different from all other created things because God gave us a soul which some say is the same as spirit, and He gave us a body that fell in Adam. The soul is our affections, our conscience, and our mind which is where sin begins to work. Sin tells us to lie or steal or even that we are a preytty nice person and dont need a savior from sin. Then why did Christ come down from heaven to a virgin and die for our sins willingly? Remember, The apostles knew that the Romans and Jewish leaders (though the people believed on him)did not really plan for Christs death but it was forordained by
God Himself. What an amazing thing. Christ, the son of God would die for those who hated Him and gives all of us an offer to come unto him for eternal life. We have a conscience which is why we dont hill like lions. When we see the sun, moon, and stars, and all of creation, deep down inside we know that there is a God. However we supress that truth so much that in Romans chapter 1 Paul writes that God gave them over to do those things that are wrong. God through inspiring Theb apostle Paul speaks about giving them over to homosexuality and lesbianism. And though they knew it to be wrong instead of condemning the behavior, practiced it themselves. That is why there is so much trouble today as God is giving the world over to Satan. 20 years ago there wasnt as much as suicide or killing members of ones own family. 40 million abortions since the supreme court decision. Gangs ,starvation, people not caring about god but rather made a God of sports and television and most of all the love of money. Where is the golden age the green party hopes for. No, Romans 3 tells us “there is none righteos no not one.” When we begin to see our own hearts , we actually side with what the bible says and not Barbara Streitand and Michael Moore and George Soros. Even though your college professors tell you to eat and drink and be merry. Evolution is there great denial of an eternal soul and everlasting punishment. So what you mean is, you’re soul is things that have been proven to be results of experiences stored in the brain and brain chemistry. What happens when a person gets amnesia? Is their soul damaged? When a person has a genetic disorder that effects their ability to make decisions, is that because their soul is damaged?

You are just stating bad (except for the abortion part) things. Most gang members, murderer and athletes are relgious. You aren’t attempting to look into the real reasons for these things, because you can just call it a “lack of Jesus” or the like. Father, are you getting a little angry. You sound foolish now. The bible speaks of fools and wise men and women. The fool says in his heart ther is no god. The beginning of wisdom is the fear or reverence of the Lord. The Bible tellsus that no murderer or fornicator nor adulterer nor homosexual and the likes who practice these things shall not enter the kingdom of God. I think I explained quite a lot and as a matter of fact you may never hear the things i’ve said again in your life. I dont know how old you are but we are all going to die no matter how much we excercise and how good are diets are. That is why I wish instead of taking it from me, read for yourself. One thing you will find out fast is that Jesus told his followers not to call anyone Father for there is only one Father in heaven. However all sins we commit will be forgiven, past ,present and future and that is the good news of the bible. I remind you again, jesus said in Mathew 7 vs; 13;14 strive to enter by the narrow gate for broad is the way, and wide is the gate and many enter there. But narrow is the gate and straight is the way and few there are that find it. Salvation though free because of what Christ did we lay all our sins on Him. But there is a cost we must count. Are we willing to give up maybe our friends, or our parents love for us. What about giving 1 in 7 days to God by worshipping Him in a bible believing and loving Church. Are you prepared to give up your smug self righteousness, and your socalled wisdom and start learning what God tells us. Not through signs and wonders but the Bible alone. That is why europe was turned upside down by men like the reformers and puritans who a great many majored in Philosopy. Some of our greatest inventors and scientists were Christians thoug probably hard to find in textbooks. Many came out of Rome with all it’s superstition and entrappments when they heard men like John wesley and George Whitfield preach. The Puritans gave us the likes of John Bunyan, John Owen, John Calvin and so many good men and their families who had to flee England where there really was a church state mix. Thank God, these men started in the Northeast beginning different denominations and catholics were not persecuted by Protestants here. I know no men are perfect and the burning of witches and dealings with Indians might have been wrong. But did you know that willberforse and others put an end to slavery. Only Christians actually live out a true democratic society and just like in Rome, Christians are told to submit to the Government wheter good or not so good. Paying taxes, voting, and not trying to establish a theocracy which ended sadly when God allowed the old testament temple to be destroyed with the nation of Israel for there rejection of Christ. Thankfully there is still a remnant of Jew and Gentiles that are being saved but only through Jesus Christ. Hey that is bigotted you homophobic moron. No but that is what the Bible teaches. Yet when we read Genesis and by faith we see in the first 11 chapters how we were created, how we fell into sin, how God forgave Noah but caused a flood to destroy the world back then. Genesis is a great book and easy to understand and so is Exodus. It gets a little hard after that and unfortunatly, many well meaning people start reading there. Those Paulites that were all about social control really didn’t like the concept of the message being to seek all knowledge to free your soul. Actually my good man, the bible has been around since 325 CE after the First Council of Nicaea (making it 1681 years old to be truthful). This is where the canon was voted into place by a council of bishops and Roman Emperor Constantine I. The Books had been around for a while, but the ones that got in were decided simply by what the majority of Christians at the time were reading at their services. If one of the tenents that you’ve been preaching is that it is very hard to follow the way of Jesus, wouldn’t it only be right that the minority that read other text would have had it correct? If it were easy, the majority of early Christians would have done it right? Those poor Gnostics, I guess you guys might have messed up on that.

It can’t be explained because it doesn’t exist, trying to describe a soul is like trying to describe a unicorn. All they have to go on is fantasy books, with no bearing on reality. The only difference is, it is easier to invalidate the existance of a soul than a unicorn.

So god a is a mind and brain huh (I don’t see the difference, do you?). Well a whole lot of animals have brains, shouldn’t they have souls? Animals have wills and affections, just like we do, caused by biological impulses? What is a conscience but a result of memories and instincts?
As for your petty personal attack, actually I sit here a good part of the day working, and occassionally checking up on forums like this. Why do I do it? Well why do you do it? It’s a forum for debate, I happen to enjoy a good debate, although it probably seems like a holy crusade to you. I happen to think that most of the worlds problems stem from religion, and that far too many people blindly believe in things that have awful effects in the real world.
I’ll still be here, but I’m glad you leave, one less idiot with beliefs so weak that he can’t take a little debate. What would happen to you if you had proof that your religion was false? Just a hypothetical here… My guess is you would freak out or flat out deny fact, because you desperately need the fairy tale.

The soul as described as “mind, body, affections, a will and conscience” cannot be a permanent unchanging entity then. Because all those deccriptors can change very easily. Mind changes as you gain knowledge or get a brain injury. Body changes as you grow old and become diseased and eventually die. Affections changes with the times, what you find favorable in your youth for example, cartoons, you find juvenile as you mature. Interests you had in the past fade as you develop new interests. Will changes as your focus on different goals changes. Conscience changes as you grow and become more aware of the nuances of life. What you hold absolutely as truth and unquestioned in your youth becomes more flexible when you realize life is more than just black and white, but varying degrees of grey. Now if all that makes up the “soul” then the soul cannot really be a permanent thing. So “who you are” really is not a permanent unchanging thing with an absolute boundary. So what gets saved? What goes to heaven

Christians like to gloat, don’t they? Isn’t that behaviour indicative of a small minded unrighteous person? Isn’t it evil in the heart for the Christian to enjoy the fact that the nonbelievers will burn in the fires of hell? So the Christian is saved and the rest of us will be judged and thrown into eternal fire and brimstone, suffering all eternity. If the Christian has the courage to look inside his heart and find any hint of pleasure at the suffering of others, even the “enemy” then how closely are you living the word of God? Search your soul, existent or non existent, and look deeply within. Ask yourself why you gloat so much. Is that not pride? Or do you like to say “I told you so”? Also a form of pride? He also said dont fear what man can do to you but i tell you who to fear. Fear Him who is able to destroy body and soul in Hell. Jesus spoke more about hell than heaven in the gospel of Mathew. But you all still wont come to Christ. You love darkness more than light. You love this world which is perishing. The lust of the flesh , the lust of the eyes and the pride of life. Unless a man is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God. Also, what’s with you and the whole “hitting rock bottom” thing? Does Jesus prove his existence when you hit rock bottom? Is there any reason to believe in god more when you “hit rock bottom”? Or could it be that you people find it easier to convert those who have no where else to turn, or have lost faith in themselves? Sort of like the missionaries, who give out food to starving peoples in return for accepting Jesus.

Crap, I must have missed that when I was making barely enough money to pay my bills, was eating one meal a day, hadn’t seen a doctor in 3 years, and had developed a pre-diabetic condition, not to mention the almost losing all of my friends and having estranged myself to my family. Man, too bad… now I have a great job, my health is improving, I’ve repaired my friendships and found a great partner and started talking to my family again.
You know I totally missed that proof of God in all of that. I just thought that I decided to get off my duff put out some job applications, and get a better attitude. Sorry, guys. My mistake.

First of all, you don’t KNOW there is a train coming, you just believe it. All the real evidence says otherwise, but you blindly believe ancient superstitions. Also, there are plenty of non-jesus-wrath reasons for not smoking crack, and your use of it in defense of your beliefs is inappropriate.

What exactly is wrong with never hurting anyone, getting a degree, and watching “steinfeld”? More meaningless fearmongoring… Why should I bow down to your god? Why do I need mercy? What if I spent my entire life never hurting another living creature, and helping the unfortunate, but didn’t like the idea of giving up a level of reasoning to superstition and ignorance? Would I still be an evil person, in need of “saving” and “mercy”? If your god could send a person like that to eternal torture, then I want no part in your silly beliefs.

The argument that Christians use here is silly… Be saved or go to Hell! Bullshit. If God cannot see my deeds as good and my soul as pure, then it’s His fault, not mine. And the Original Sin bullshit always gets me, too. So, if my father is a rapist and a mass murderer before I am born, then I’m guilty of rape and mass murder when I’m born? Uhhh, no, because I DIDN’T DO IT! And if God wants to punish me for something that someone in my family did 1000’s of years ago, well, I’d rather spend my time in hell than with that kind of an asshole deity.
That being said, I don’t beleive that God is like that. You live a virtuous, soulful (not necessarily religious!) life, He’ll judge your life. You live a vile, materialistic (even while being highly religious!) life, He’ll judge that too. You reap what you sow. That, of course, is only what I believe, you can believe whatever you want.

Um, to be honest, I’m having a hard time understanding why you think I’m against you.
You’re having a good life, you do good things, you help those around you? Good. You rape and murder and steal? Not good. Why? Because you’re hurting others. Not because God tells you it’s bad, because the rest of us do.
If you need God to tell you that, then you really need to look around. I believe in God. I just don’t think that you should need to believe to be a good person… and if you’re a good person, I believe that that should be enough.
But, as I said, those are my _beliefs_. Nothing about that is written in stone for you, and you can believe whatever you want; your beliefs are not my problem or my business. Just don’t mess with my shit and I won’t with yours.

2nd reason why men will not come to Christ. To reveiw, the first was that they did not see any need to coming to Christ. Nichodemus came to Jesus at night and commended Him on His miracles and told Him we know you are from God because no one could do the miracles we have seen you do. But Jesus told Nichodemus, the Pharisee or great teacher in Israel that he must be born again. How can a man enter his mothers womb a second time. Obviously, poor Nichodemus didn’t understand the spiritual meaning of Christs words. Later he did become born again and even during the day asked Pilot for the body of the Christ. But it took a new birthh for Nichodemus to see his need to come to Christ. He was self righteous and smug in his religion like some of you are are smug because you too dont think you need a savior. If God takes sin so seriously that He had his Son incarnate go to the cross and suffer the penalty for our sins, maybe we should relize sin is real. Dod is so holy that we cant understand his demand for us to be holy because we were born in sin. @nd reason why men wont come to Christ is because they dont want to turn or give up their little or big sins, inspite of the fact that John the Baptist, Jesus, Peter, Paul and the Old testament Prophits commanded men to turn from their sins. But God must work on us tom give us a hatred of all sin. We all brohe the law of God and must pay for it with death and judgement. It is appointed for man to die and after this comes annihillation or purgatory? No aAfter this comes judgement. The judjement Jesus suffered. third reason men will not come to Christ. Jesus said you cannot love mammom or things and God equally. Either you will hate the one and love the other or vica verca. He also said whoever is a friend of the world is an eneny towards God. This does not mean we are to hate what God has given us richly and freely to enjoy. Food, air, flowers, seasons, skiing, boxing and the like. It also doesnt mean we are to become german nonks or menanites and withdraw from everyone because everyone is evil. Even electricity. I dont want to goof on thses well meanig people but we must be balanced in all we think and say and do. Jesus obviously is talking about a love of money, the pride of life, a lust of thigs we see and touch, and making a god out of things in this world instead of worshipping the true God who gave us all things to use in moderation such as wine, food, things we need for our body, marriage, kids, even nice homes. But too many do not want to take their marriage ring with the world off their finger and seek the will of God. The world is a suttle place and also a beatifull place. The mountains in the west, rainforrests, a full moon a sunset even a beautifull or handsome face all come from God. We were Larry Birs fans and Yankee or Met fans but God was not even thought of. When that God tells us to divorse ourselves from an inordinate love of this world and all its traps and get true peace and happinesss from God and he will give us all that we need. Many people don’t want that type of God. I do what I want and you cant do a thing about it God. That is why it is so hard for people to come to christ. But God says that just like a flower, the world is passing away and one day it will be purged with fire and then we all shall stand before the judgement seat and give an account to God for how we lived in this world. All will be guilty except thost who came to Christ on His terms alone. Again, if you think this is foolishness, remember you are not guaranteed one more breath while you live on this earth. Dont die in your sins but this is the closest thing you might ever hear from a biblical preacher and Gods word in your lifetime. Dont rest your head tonite thinking you will defeat Gos. I would call ignorance darkness. I have no reason to fear any god wrath, because I do not believe in god. I have nothing to fear or flee. This would be like me saying you don’t believe in the Judaism, because you work on the sabbath and you’re afraid of god’s wrath, or you don’t believe in Allah because you don’t kill infidels and you’re afraid of god’s wrath.

Doug, You probably cant change thier minds especialy on a site like this where mob mentality takes over. They are searching for truth all we can do is pray they can find it. In my short time as a christian I found it best to just invite people to church, and answer a question when god puts it on someones heart to ask it of me. Trying to explain things to someone who wants no explanation usually doesn’t work. They think they have it figured out. They’re not bad people (well at least Some are, I couldn’t tell you). They just fall short as we all do and need Christ. Now I’m not saying To not testify to what God has done in your life I’m just saying that they first have to understand God’s love before they can understand his commandments. I had an article posted on here by gasmanso. I would have to say as a wiser christian than i was then there is alot of things I would changed. Instead of telling them why I think I’m right I should’ve told them how much God loves us. (I’m sure they will pick this apart because somtimes words have many meanings. To find the truth behind the words, you must find the spirit of the writers Intent. The best way to do that is to ask Who wrote it, Why they wrote it, When they wrote it, What was happening in that point in history when they wrote it. And in this case they probably have no Idea why I have written what I have writtin. They will say probably ignorance or arrogance when it is niether. They think we write with intent to prove we are right.)
All we can do for now is pray for them and try to be friendly. tell a few jokes and have some meaningles conversation, untill they ask a question they don’t already have the answer to.

1.This question used to run through my mind also, but There is and there Is not (hope that makes since. There is right answers and wrong ones. (hold on I’ll get to the question). Just because i believe with all my heart that 2+2=5 it doesn’t make that true. I have read the bible. I have set that over top of the actions of people and my own thoughts and actions and noticed it to match. (i know this may be hard to understand, I know what i want to say I just don’t know how to say it.)Mostly I know it to be true because of the miracles I’ve seen. I was realy sitting on the fence about telling you my story because I’m sure your picturing a religious creep who makes stuff up to sell hi Idea but I’ll tell you anyway. I was at a party and they started drinking and so I was leaving. as I backed away a tripped on a log and fell face first into a fire. Both my hands went down into the flames and hair on my face had been singed off. The cloths I was wearing that night(witch I still have atest to the fact that I should’ve been alot worse than I am). I jumped out of the fire and my right arm had third degree burns from my fingertip to my elbow. I also had severe burns on my back.My skin was still attached In someplaces but It was black and dead. I was supposed to have skin graphs but when I showed up a week later the doctors could not believe my progress. I have not had the surgery nor do I need it. I have skin on my hand that I shouldn’t have for another year yet. This happend 2 moths ago. I remember that praying during the painfull times would always ease it. i know God exists because of my personal relationship with him. I’ve been throught the fire I know what awaits me if My heart isn’t right in the end. this is not a scare tactic. I only tell you what I know. Believe me don’t belive me. (come over I’ll show you the cloths and my skin, you can talk to the doctors if you want. Let me know I’ll have mamw cook up a batch of cornbread, or if you don’t like cornbread I’m sure we’ll find somthing you like.)
2. Works are important but most important is your heart. you could cheat on your wife ask her to forgive you (even though you want to do it again) all she has is your word. What we think on most is what we are. somtimes the only diffrence from criminals and people who obey the law is the fact that criminals have the guts to do what they want as where other people are afraid of consequences or of what other people think. It’s all about the want to. I don’t go to church unless I want to. I don’t testify unless I want to because without the want to to do the right thing it’s all in vain. Prayer is talking with god. What kind of marriage would two people have if they never talked to each other. As far as worship goes, he tells us to because it is good for us. No matter what people say everyone worships somthing. Back when I worked for budwieser people we passed would basicly worship the truck and us. People worship the oppostie sex. people worship the t.v and shout it’s praises people worship food. I choose to worship a god that loves us all and was willing to come down take on all our infirmaties. Be treated the worst way possible by those he came to help and to die for thier sake. I worship a God who has all our best intrests at heart, A God whoose word is not to be obeyed just because I said so but because It’s good for us and keeps us from our own destructive behavior.. (kind of like if your kid is getting ready to stick his finger in a light socket, your not gona sit thereand say well if he wants to he wants to, he gives us a warning.)People tend to miss the part where he’s a caring father not a mean dictator. God don’t send people to hell People send people to hell. Sin is kind of like haveing metal on you when you’re going through a metal detector, you can’t get past it. He’s not neccesarily telling us we can’t get into heaven as much as informing us if you get what I mean.

I hope you are well. First allow me to comment on this:
While I cannot speak for everyone, of course, I think you’ll find most of us believe ‘miracle’ experiences from believers, unless we have reason to suspect deception. You have not given me a reason to suppose that you might be lying, so I’ll take you for your word. What we disagree with is that these ‘miracle’ stories are supernatural events.
These sorts of conversations always tend to go the same: the believer provides a supernatural explanation for their experience, the non-believers provide possible natural explanations, the believer then attempts to poke holes in the natural explanations (”It can’t be scientific explanation X because Y happened”).
I think this is where the fundamental split between believers and non-believers is located. It is in how we react to inexplicable events (such as ‘miraculous’ events). The non-believer searches for an explanation, but is willing to admit that they don’t have a good explanation if they find none. “I don’t know” is an acceptable answer. When a believer experiences an inexplicable event, they suppose supernatural causes. If the outcome of the event is seen as good, God did it. The the outcome is bad, Satan or demons did it.
As for your particular story, it was, thankfully, a good outcome. I’m glad you are healing very quickly and hope that you have a full recovery. Since the doctors didn’t have a good natural explanation for your ‘miraculous’ recovery, you suppose God did it. What I want to know is what is wrong with “I don’t know”? Why must you have an explanation? Why do you suppose that there is no possible natural explanation?
One of the most common answers I get to these sort of questions is some version of “I feel it”. In other words, the believer feels they are right about their explanation. But our feelings about the world are often wrong. For instance, it really does feel like the earth does not move and that the sun is circling it. And how many times have people said “He/She is the one! We’ll be together forever. I can feel it” only to break up a month later?
The other problem with ‘miracle’ experiences is that any mythology can be used to supernaturally explain it away. How do you know it was the Christian God? It is just as likely that Krishna healed you, or any deity. Also, a Muslim might say that you were healed by an evil jinn who tricked you into believing a false God did it. I can even invent new supernatural explanations if I wanted to: The Great Healing Turkey of the Western Woods pecked your wounds away while you sleep. In other words, there is no way one can determine which supernatural cause was behind your experience, apart from one person’s unreliable feeling.
I have many other comments, but I’ve already written way too much. I guess I’ll have to leave other portions of your comment for others to respond to. Unless, of course, you are interested in my response to a particular issue you raised. Just let me know.

I’m not sure to whom this was directed. From the ‘use… all’, we might infer ‘you all’ thus meaning everyone. Given the context in which this sample of retardish was taken, I believe it is referring to the previous 94 commenters and perhaps even the original poster. It is unclear whether the rest is a comment on everyone’s emotional state or their imagined love of seeing others suffer. The original meaning of ’sados’ is, sadly, lost to history.
