Here is an outstanding, dare I say beautiful, performance by a very unique group of performers known as the Chinese Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe. A mouthful indeed. This troupe consists of about 21 men and women with hearing and visual impairment or physical disability. They have dazzled audiences in over 40 countries since 1987.
The performance here is called the Thousand-hand Bodhisattva and is part of their My Dream show. As you watch this, remember all of them are deaf or nearly blind. I find it nearly impossible that they can maintain that level of timing and synchronization. Absolutely top notch.
If anyone knows more about this please share with us! :)

Freakin’ amazing.
wow, that is so cool. Wonder how they do that when half is blind and the other half deaf.
ps. the cameraman needs to go back to school
I don’t know much more than you about this, but it was shown to me about a year ago by a chinese fiance of a friend of mine. She described it as one of the proudest cultural achievements and apparently they are wildly approved of and appreciated in China.
This is one rare instance where I think the video would be better than the performance, only insofar as the “thousand hand” view is from head-on only. Cameras allow someone to choose the best point of view, which for this demo is only in one direction. However, it would still be fascinating to see it from any angle.
I don’t know about the cameraman, but the people at youtube need to be shot for their lousy encoding. Which I don’t really mean but nevertheless this is one of those things that would look nice in some HD glory. As it is that awesome.
Oh, and let me be the first to say, that’s one BILF!
That was wonderful but it would be better in HD

ITS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING A HAVE SEEN THESE YEAR SO FAR
THANKS…INCREDIBLE…AMAZING..
That was…amazing, I dont know why, but it bought tears to my eyes, it was amazing
What an incredible performance! All the more special because they are handicapped. I would love to see an entire show. Talk about concentration!
I think that the music must be played fairly loud to where they could feel the vibrations of it. Cues could be taken from the music that way. Still, it’s a fantastic display of discipline and grace considering the disabilities they have.
Correction: they’re not blind. They are deaf and mute.
What with all the admiration for these performers for doing something useful despite their “disability”, I’d like to point out that deaf people aren’t stupid. They have just as much appreciation and talent for art as anyone else, and probably more motivation to create than the hearing, seeming as they get such surprised accolades for their achievements. Hands are the voice of deaf people, so try to see this as singing rather than the theatre of hearing people. Also there’s this thing called sign language, so I don’t see how communication would be a problem.
(Though, I am a hearing person, so it’s not my job to defend the deaf community. Just thought I’d add my 2c. Sorry about the snark.)
The Amazing Kim-
I think the “amazing” part about the fact that they are deaf stems from the fact that dancing to music is cued by listing to the music, which usually requires an ability to hear. Nobody’s talking about deaf people being stupid, being unable to do art, or being unable to communicate.
Of course, if the music is loud enough, they can feel the vibrations through their bodies. But they can’t hear a lot of the expression and nuances in the music. I read an interview with the lead dancer from this troupe, and as she explains it they do have to do extra work to do their routine. They have four coaches stand in the four corners of the room to cue them when they practice. Also, their coaches have them put their hands on the speakers to feel the music before, and explain to them the different parts.
Thank you very much for this article, has served as much to me and my colleagues look forward to your website to gather more news
When I see a great post I usually do a few things:1.Show it to all the close contacts.2.Bookmark it in all of the popular social sharing websites.3.Be sure to return to the same blog where I came accross the article. After reading this post I am seriously concidering going ahead and doing all of the above!
It reminds me of Shokan Race in Mortal Kombat game like Sheeva, Goro, and Kintaro
Here is the groupe’s official web site http://www.mydream.org.cn/en/index.aspx
The instruments are a big improve. You generate these tools really accessible because I am possessing a difficult time looking for them.
No worries it is better than i could come up with drunk or stone sober. I’ll work on it though maybe I’ll come up with a Haiku.
