Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-CO), the lead sponsor of the constitutional ban on gay marriage in the House ran her fat mouth off this weekend at the Family Research Council’s "Value Voter Summit." She claims that gay marriage is not only a cultural war, but it is the most important issue that we face today.
And of course she had to instill a little fear into her audience by declaring, "The future is grim unless we do what we need to do to win this battle." But wait, what about the children? It seems that every politician is out to save our children from heavy metal, video games, and fast food. Surely, homosexuals with their good fashion sense, and pleasant demeanor must pose a threat to the children! Well thank God Marilyn is on the right track…
…and we need to fight the good fight for our children and our grandchildren. Thank you very much.
What threat they pose she didn’t mention, but thank the good Lord Jesus that we have people like her in Congress. People that stick up for the little guy. People that fight for freedom and justice. People that keep the American spirit alive!
God bless you Marilyn Musgrave and a big Heil Hitler to you honey!

A popular slogan comes to mind: “Don’t like gay marriage? Don’t have one!”
This is applying one’s faith to those who want no part of it. This is in direct conflict with the principle of separating church and state.
The current administration doesn’t believe in that principle though. That’s such a fucking disgrace that it sickens me.

“…but this battle is the most important issue we face today…”
NO IT’S NOT.
Everything else aside, I’m continually astounded by people who say stuff like this. Poverty, healthcare, the war, terrorism, civil rights and a million other legitimate issues are aparantly all insignificant compared to the horror of same sex couples.

When I hear “the future is grim” it conjures up thoughts of events that kill off most of the population.
Does she really believe that Homosexuality is some sort of plague that will spread until humanity is unwilling to reproduce?
Perhaps she thinks that without “traditional” marriage, society will crumble and humanity will die? How did we survive before the 6th century?
Or perhaps to her “grim” means color coordinated? A world where brown and red are not deemed highly fashionable: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Marilyn_Musgrave.jpg

..and we all know traditional marriages are so great. Near 50% divorce rates, abuse, infidelity and who knows what else. The best way to prevent gay marriage is to let them get married. People who base their votes on something that has no direct effect on them deserve the reaming they’re inviting by ignoring an issue that matters. Unfortunately the more aware peolple would suffer with them.

I wonder if she really believes this nonsense or if it’s just a ploy to get votes.
Either way she’s an idiot….
September 28th, 2006 at 12:04 pm
she’s disgusting. but all things considered, the surest way to get votes in america is to spout this kind of bullshit to all the xtians who are just eating this up. if i was in politics, i would be doing the same thing.

Actually, some churchian groups are starting to feel played out by the government. They’ve started to realize that they don’t really have “their” candidates in the political arena, but instead have people that play to these issues to get votes. Either way, though, its still a mockery of the democratic process to get elected by spouting this whole gay/atheist/terrorist boogyman rhetoric.

“homosexuals with their good fashion sense”
I just had to point to this.

“Either way, though, its still a mockery of the democratic process to get elected by spouting this whole gay/atheist/terrorist boogyman rhetoric.”
The worst thing about it is that it seems to be working.

The worst thing about it is that everyone acknowledges it and it still works. I understand why (and it pisses me off) I spent three hours reading the props up for vote in California. It’s tedious and difficult to decipher the lesser of the evils (and that’s what it boils down to)and most people simply don’t care. It’s easier to complain than work.

That’s one of the failures of democracy.. What’s the point of going through every candidate’s agenda, if the moron next door is going to vote for the candidate who had the most flashy ads…
September 29th, 2006 at 2:32 am
and that’s why only we all need to take a test on the agenda of whatever they’re voting on. maybe only three multiple choice questions. That way, people who don’t know what the hell they’re doind don’t get to vote.
Which takes care of all the people who “decide in the booth” or who on something because “they’ve always done that” or even worse, because their parents always did that.

When exactly was it… what morning did I wake up to a country that had gone batshit loco? Something has to give way soon. The scary part is that I honestly don’t think that woman knows that she’s being used.

How do you know when a politician is lying? Their mouth is open.

The Bible clearly depicts that sodomy and gay marriage is against our religion. So that Nazi flag in the background is a little overdoing it.

Who says the Bible is right mike? The Bible also say seafood is bad and slaves are ok. Go figure.

Back to the Nazi flag… The Nazis were all about controlling people and discriminating against certain groups like homosexuals, gypsies, etc. Calling her a Nazi is not that far fetched.

Whether anyone agrees with her or not, is it not her right as an American citizen to speak her mind? Why should she be censored simply because her ideals conflict with those who support the gay community? Isn’t free speech a two way street? Some here are enjoying their right to free speech by calling this woman a nazi afterall…
June 6th, 2007 at 11:06 am
Hello Christine,
No one here said that she shouldn’t be permitted to speak her hate-filled mind. Are you trying to divert attention away from the content of Rep. Marilyn’s words by needlessly attempting to make it a free-speech issue?

December 20th, 2007 at 5:20 pm
I don’t appreciate the condescension inherent in ‘mi fili’, but yes, I do. Though I wonder if we would agree on what constitutes ’sepientia’.

Howdy all,
Darmyman, I must agree with Sid on this one. I am not your son and I would guess our definition of wisdom would vastly differ. If you really want to participate in a discussion here I would suggest english rather than trying to show off you google skills or your over education. So in the translated words of my generation (paraphrased movies quote) Ascendo tuum.

I do wonder how Axel Oxenstierna is suitable to be used as a point against the usage of nazi flag? I just cannot see it.
Elaborate, please.

It’s really a sad thing when one can only talk in quotes. But I agree with the quote, we need fewer nutcases and more wise people to rule the world.
Yes, i’m aware that’s not the official interpretation, but I prefer my own, equally valid, translations. Ahh, dead languages, where every answer is uqually correct.

At least the comments that have been posted are much more civilized than article title and picture. I’m not sure if the “Nazi Whore” comment is an attempt at sensationalism on the part of the writer or simply a poor attempt to draw comparisons with the 3rd Reich. My original post objected not to the very short article itself but to the use of the Nazi Flag and also to the Whore insult. I would hope that writers, bloggers - whatever they wish to call themselves today - would be a bit more gentile in their remarks. As to some of the comments made, Simon - ascendo tuum - was very good. Alcari - me mordi – needs a bit of assistance but I do like your comment on dead languages – they are fascinating. My personal favorite is Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum and in closing I’ll wish - Et in terra pax hominibus bonae voluntatis – Happy Holiday’s
