Saddam was recently sentenced to death for his role in the 1982 crackdown in the Shiite town of Dujail. He was responsible for countless other acts of stupidity, but that goes with the territory of being a dictator.
It’s a thankless job that nobody understands or appreciates. Look at Osama Bin Laden for example. He works long hours, in the most difficult of environments, to fight the imperialist government of the United States.
Sure there was no link between Saddam and Osama, but what if there was. Just imagine for a second the dynamic duo of Saddam and Osama. In case you lack the imagination, here’s a little help :)

Osama and Saddam were enemy. Irak was a laic, socialist country…all lies
November 6th, 2006 at 7:48 pm
It’s from Saturday Night Live. It’s not lies, it’s a comedy sketch… a joke.

Alcari, I try to keep the news on this site somewhat off the beaten path. The whole Haggard issue was reported so well by so many sites that I didn’t feel my site would add to it.

How come they didn’t include any jokes about how the CIA recruited and and trained Muslims to fight its proxy war in AFghanistan agianst the Russians. THe Soviet Uniton collpased and the Unitesd States became the lone superpower and Afghnistan was left in ruins. Does anyone have any numbers on how many Afghanis died?
How come the cartoon doesn’t include any jokes about how the United States helped bring Saddam into power and gave him stragtegic and financial support when he was committing his worst atrocities?
November 11th, 2006 at 9:20 am
Simple answer RandallJones, it was a short cartoon on a comedy show and those weren’t the subjects the wanted to bring up.
November 11th, 2006 at 7:52 pm
Its something that atheists and most of the mainstream doesn’t want to bring up either. No less evil than Holocaust denial.
November 12th, 2006 at 10:59 am
a real joke
November 12th, 2006 at 11:08 am
Your comparison fails, RandalJones. Holocaust deniers are claiming a falsehood. They are perpetuating a lie. Those who do not want to bring up America’s support for dictators throughout the Cold War are not lying about it, they are either ignorant or apathetic about it. Actively lying is much worse than not knowing or caring.
Having said that, I do think it is shameful that most Americans don’t know or care about how bad the US has historically been at nation building. If more Americans knew and cared about this, they would have been much more hesitant to preemptively invade a foreign country.

“Its something that atheists and most of the mainstream doesn’t want to bring up either. No less evil than Holocaust denial. ”
Why are you blaming atheists for a political problem. That’s like blaming barbers for global warming. There simply isn’t a connection. Atheism is a lack of religious belief, not a political stance. Although from what I’ve seen most atheists seem to be more liberal, and liberals tend to be against these preemptive wars with the middle east. Not to mention that there aren’t any admitted atheists with political power in the US… AT ALL.

“”Atheism is a lack of religious belief, not a political stance. “”
Atheism = evil
Democrats = evil
Democrats = political stance
thus because evil = evil and democrats = democrats, Atheism = political stance………….
“”Not to mention that there aren’t any admitted atheists with political power in the US… AT ALL.”"
big suprise there, with George ‘god told me to’ Bush for a president.

sidfaiwu,
Most who are Holocaust deniers are not responsible for the Holocaust. The United States is responsible for the regime changes and bombings around the world. But you still claim that this willfull apathy/ignorance is not as evil. Isn’t the United States a wealthy nation, were we have libraries, computers, and many news sources?
SO because we are ignorant and apathetic than those who have died have not suffered as much those who died during the Holocaust.
ANy where from 3 to 5 million people died during the Vietnam war. Who knows how many others have died due to the United States interventions in Africa, the Middle East, and South AMerica?
Which brings me to the figure 6 million Jews that died in the Holocaust. How come we have an exat number that never changes, but we can not get an exact number on how many died in many other genocides?
Do you know there are legitamate scholars (including Jewish ones) that are questioning the number of people ( as well as the cause/method) that died? There are these debates about many other genocides. WHy can’t there be an open debate about the number of Jews that died during World War II.

Your Father and Alcari,
But most politicians are secular and believe in the separation of church and State. But even if what you say is right, it doesn’t explain why Sam Harris and many other atheists don’t bring up U.S. policy when discussing violence and Islam. Sam Harris is pro-war and pro-torture.

Your Father and Alcari,
Most politicians are secular and believe in the separation of church and State. Bu tven if what you say is correct, it doesn’t it explain why Sam Harris and many other atheist don’t bring up U.S policy when discussing Islam and violence. Sam Harris is pro-war and pro-torture.
November 12th, 2006 at 6:40 pm
Sam Harris brings up terrible acts that are done in the name of religion, because that is his cause. He brings up things that both christians and muslims have done in the name of their religions, such as muslim terrorists, and christian abortion clinic violence. He doesn’t bring up everything that the American government has done wrong, because most of it has nothing to do with religion. Yes, the american government has done a lot of stupid shit, but it wasn’t in the name of any religion. That’s why he hasn’t mentioned any of it. I don’t know his stance on American politics, but I seriously doubt he’s pro-war and pro-torture.
He doesn’t fight for the environment either, but that doesn’t mean he’s for burning down the rain forests.
Like I said before, most atheists I’ve spoken with are well informed liberals who are against the war.

“Most politicians are secular and believe in the separation of church and State.”
More like half, and for the past decade or so, those who aren’t secularists have been in power. I don’t see what separation of church and state has to do with preemptive wars either. Do you seriously think that if there was more religion in the US government that none of these things would’ve happened? Bush’s presidency should be case and point against that claim.
