He brings up things that both christians and muslims have done in the name of their religions, such as muslim terrorists, and christian abortion clinic violence. He doesn't bring up everything that the American government has done wrong, because most of it has nothing to do with religion. Yes, the american government has done a lot of stupid shit, but it wasn't in the name of any religion. That's why he hasn't mentioned any of it. I don't know his stance on American politics, but I seriously doubt he's pro-war and pro-torture. He doesn't fight for the environment either, but that doesn't mean he's for burning down the rain forests. Like I said before, most atheists I've spoken with are well informed liberals who are against the war.
