The Turkish chapter of the Islamic Sign Creators Association (ISCA) overwhelmed the Pope during his historic visit to Turkey this week. The Pope was initially filled with joy, but that quickly subsided when he got a close look at the poor craftsmanship, confusing statements, and blatant plagiarism.
For example, one clever person held a sign that showed the Pope peering into a mirror only to see a reflection of the scary guy from Scream. While the Pope was impressed with the quality construction, he felt it lacked originality.
Other signs just confused the Pope. One claimed that Jesus was not the son of God, but a prophet of Islam. The Pope was embarrassed and kindly asked the individual if Mary was still his mother. No word on their response. The Vatican is looking into the issue.
The Pope also learned that the Crusades are still fresh on the minds of many Muslims, even though all those responsible have been deceased for centuries and most people nowadays have moved on.
Overall though, the Pope was pleased with their work, but said the quality wasn’t on par with the signs displayed during the Great Muhammed Caricatures riots of February.

Anyone else getting the impression that all muslims do is bitch and moan?
I don’t know about that, but they’re not the sole heirs to the bitch-and-moan crew. I hear Christians and Atheists moaning and complaining about “the others” all the time. :)
Having said that, the “Jesus is a prophet of Islam” thing is a surprise to many, and it’s odd that it’s even a surprise to Muslims. Muhammad recited many verses in the Qur’an about Jesus – I think Jesus actually appears more than any other non-contemporary figure. A friend of mine once said that “Jesus is the rock-star of the Qur’an” because He gets so much air-time (page-time?).
Anyway, It’s an identical concept to Christians saying that Moses or Abraham are prophets in the Judeo-Christian tradition. You’re average Jewish theologian might be more likely to say they were Jewish prophets which the christians mis-appropriated.
Of course, as a Baha’i, I think they were all part of the same religion, which was presented uniquely and seemingly divergently by said Prophets because of the needs and context of the audience to whom the revelation was targetted… so I guess some might argue that we stole all the prophets. :)
here’s the anti-evolution crowd doing what they do best… reminds me of that phelps dumbass (or whatever his name is).
lol, just saw the last sign about the crusades. someone forgot of the turkish invasion of europe didn’t they? just one of many examples just as bad or worse than the crusades…
There’s no pleasing some people is there?

Pope makes a remark about a long dead emperor saying saying, unjustly, that islam is bad –> Muslims outraged

I’m beginning to see a pattern here.
Buuut, it does put things in perspective. mohamed’s grammar isn’t that bad :P
Is it just me or are a lot of foreign people speaking/writing in English these days?
well, they could have written it in Turkish, but I wouldn’t get it. They could have tried Dutch, that way i’d get it, but i’m not really the target.
They could have gone for German, so they pope would understand, but the world would kind of miss the point.
The pope would get the message if they wrote it in Latin, but I doubt they speak Latin, or that there even are words for some of the things they want to say.
So, that would leave English?
All of those people protesting are definately not the majority. In fact, they would literally not be allowed into any government building wearing islamic dress like that. Take it from me, someone with a Turkish background. The islamists are trying to turn Turkey into Iran or Saudi. But no worries, when they start getting a little too uppity the military will step on them.
I’ve heard a lot about the Turkish military “keepin’ it secular”, so to speak. It surprises me that in a region generally known for mixing military and religion, Turkey’s military stands for a secular leadership. Does anyone know why exactly this is, because it’s something that I think is important in understanding how to potentially keep the whole region safe from extremist control.
As someone with a Turkish background with many family members career officers in Turkey’s military, I can say it is because they feel they are the defenders of Turkey’s secular constitution and Ataturk’s legacy. Turks are not Arabs or Persians and they don’t want a their country to turn into Saudi, Iran, or the like. I can say that they are anti-Islamist to the core and will continue to be that way. If the civilian leadership deviates from the secular constitution a little too much they will step in and clean house.
Is it just me or some of the sign look like fake ??
You’re not the first to say that. I did acquire them from the AP so I would hope they are legit :)

@wolf
i believe you, and i hope it works out. turkey has been the most progressive of the muslim countries in recent years. turkey is on the same level as the united states in terms of something that is commonly regarded as basic education.

looks rather doctored.
The sign looks fake but Muslims do regard jesus as a prophet.
Now that you point it out, it does look quite fake,
the letters are unusually centered for someone working with sitckers.
The focus seems off (could be because the sign is in front of people)
The artifacts are different on the letters then the rest of the sign.
I love how all the signs are in english. They know who their target audience is, don’t they? That’s just so sad. Yeah, It’s US they’re talking to. US. I wonder what that means? Let’s see… two plus two… hmm…
Oh, snap! They’re pissed at the United States and the Brits! I think maybe there’s a REASON FOR THAT. Whoa… like, dude. Big revelation.
I’m so ashamed of [80% of] my countrymen right now. They’re just as dumb as those damn Muslims, except the Muslims are obviously a lot more pissed off, and with good reason, too.
As to the authenticity of the images… that would be totally messed up if they were fake. But, I have seen a whole hell of a lot of English protest signs held by Muslims lately, so unless they’re ALL fake…
Anyways, if the images were doctored for effect, I wonder what they originally said?
“We love the Pope”?
I think its quite upsetting that those images are “altered”. Come on people everyone got the same impression, so did I. That one sign really looks fake. Maybe somebody tried to…translate the signs?
I’m certain that at least some of thos signs are doctored. Don’t always believe the media.
All three signs in the first and third photos look completely doctored. The others look like they could be real, can’t tell.
I think the signs are fake.. I am muslim myself, and I am an human been, religion is just a religion for me, nothing else, and has nothing to do with how I think about others.. or what person I am.. Its an religion, its like.. just a choice in what to belive..
@Arktis: English?.. I think you are american, thats why u saying that, but dude, u dont know becouse ur living in usa, but we in europe and rest of the world sees english as the MAIN language, and sees it as language that most of the people understand.
But It is wierd how we see ALL signs in english and not turkish, if u notice, their paper things around their heads are written in turkish !! why not even one of the signs? hmm.. suspicios, but I woudnt be surprised in any way..
Terrorist who are suicide bombers, who think that is right, that kind of people are not muslims, they belive they are, but they will never be accepted in Koran and Islam.. Never be accepted in God’s hands..
