I received a very confusing, yet interesting email today from Daniel Richardson, a contributing editor for Mahana’im, the Army of God. Please give it a read and share your thoughts on this one.

Hi! Ever since I was young, people taught me that God no longer speaks to people. I later learned that the Protestant Confessions, including the Baptist Confession, say the former ways of God revealing His will to His people is now ceased. I was also told not add to God’s word. That means then that we should not be saying something the Scriptures do not say… keeping in mind that Moses is the first person to have said not to add to God’s word. Every prophet, Apostle and writer of Scripture since Moses has written down what God told them to write…after Moses said not to add to the word of the God.
The issue is a matter of the origin of the things that we say. Jesus said the one that speaks of his own initiative seeks his own glory. We are told in Scripture to let everything that we say be as it were the oracles of God so that God is glorified in everything that we say and do.
We cannot say anything that is not God’s word without glorifying someone other than God. That means that any statement, creed or Confession that is admittedly not God’s word does in fact glorify whoever wrote them instead of glorifying God…especially if those Confessions blatantly say the former ways of God revealing His will to His people has now ceased. It’s something the Bible never said. That statement of the Confessions means that Christ is no longer the head of His Church (if He no longer reveals His will to His people). It also means that a man has now taken God’s place in the Temple of His body in the supposed absence of the word of the Lord. Consider what this means.
I would like to know why it is that I have not heard anyone address this blasphemy of a man speaking of his own initiative in God’s place…this satanic mark of the beast unscriptural heresy teaching of taking God’s place in the Temple of the body of Christ.
Let it be known that God does indeed reveal His will to His people the way that He always did throughout history (His sheep hear His voice). Of course there is no support in Scripture for having any change in the teaching of Scripture (there is no change). God’s truth endures to all generations.
People use Scripture taken way out context saying that prophecy will be done away with. There is no indication anywhere in Scripture of when such a thing would happen especially when Paul says that we should seek most to prophesy in the next chapter. We are told to seek to prophesy. Prophecy will be done away with only when there is no longer a need for language, when we know the Lord as He knows us. Until then, we are told to seek most to prophesy. There was never a retraction of that instruction. So it would have to be "done away with" at the end of time. If any "part" of prophecy is done away with in this life, there is no whole part. No part of the prophecy of Scripture can be done away with. Neither is the practice of prophecy done away with anywhere in Scripture.
The only other thing I have heard someone say is that God has spoken to us through His Son. "His Son" said that He would send "another Comforter". Since when does the Holy Spirit or the word of the Lord stop coming to us? There were New Testament prophets that were not the Apostles. There is no basis in Scripture for any change in teaching.
The point is that all the work done in us (today) must be as a direct result of what God does Himself so that God gets all the credit. Understand this. Nothing that we say or do can be of our own initiative. All the glory must be of God… if we want to be truthful. We have no choice but to speak God’s word at all times.
Whoever does not speak God’s word all the time, speaks of his own initiative and glorifies himself… in God’s place the same as the false prophet and the beast. In Isaiah God says, "…walk in the light of your fire and among the brands you have set ablaze; this you will have from my hand, you will lie down in torment."
I would be wrong if I didn’t speak up or say anything. Everyone who learns of this heresy of speaking of one’s self in God’s Temple, the body of Christ and doesn’t say anything against it is not doing the right thing. It is a very deceptive church heresy that has deceived millions of people.
So…"Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts". Take care.

blahblahblahblah, what boring crap.

Alright, let me take a crack at this.
It seems like, after reading it twice, I’m not seeing anything particularly new or revolutionary. It sounds like the problem is a logical one. Moses said don’t add to God’s word. Everyone who wrote what later became additions to Scripture were, if they did not directly credit God, adding to God’s word. Therefore, anything said not credited directly to God should be ignored. Included among that is something in the Confessions about the ways of God speaking to people changing, the result being that the church is no longer the church of Jesus Christ, if we were to assume that God was no longer revealing His will to us.
The point the writer seems to me to be getting at is that people say God no longer speaks to people the way he used to (as told in the Bible through burning bushes and the like), and that those people are wrong. The arguments that say God has changed are invalid because they are not credited to God, and therefore they are with a selfish intention. So yea, God will speaketh unto you yet and unto the time of the reckoning, for those who speaketh otherwise are dumbasses.
That was a fun mental exercise! Anyone else get something different?

God can speak to people any way He wants. He can do whatever He wants anytine He wants. He also has made it clear in the Holy Bible that everyone that rejects the Lord Jesus Christ will die in their sins and spend eternity in burning in hell fire. Don’t believe it? Just wait and see.

What did i just read?
I mean really, what’s the point? I have yet to meet a sane man/woman who claims god has spoken to them.

Sane and talking to god, not compatible.
We call these people schizophrenics.

rather weird text i’d say.
First he talks about how the bible (…right) is the ultimate holy scripture becase god himself wrote it. We ofcourse know very well how and who and why the bible was put together as it was, so it’s hard to make a statement saying the bible is the ultimate holy scripture.
then he talks about that churches are evil because they have a priest reading from the holy scriptures, and somehow making themselves gods in that way. I’ve heard many times that when they read they are supposed to and are trying to impersonate someone holy, that’s the reason for the crazy dress and other highly tratitional stuff happenening in a sermen. This isn’t new or something the church is trying to keep a secret, simply the fact of religion.
He also talks about language as a hindrance to holyness, and that it will someday not be nessecary… and that’s just plain weird.
so: he makes a wrong statement, then says that most christian churches are evil because of that first statement, then he sort of rambles on at the end, not that the first part wasn’t rambling…

I lieu of having a detailed response to this right now (I have to get on the road for my family’s vacation), I will just take this sentence.
We have no choice but to speak God’s word at all times.
Okay, so god made me a blaspheming charismatic atheist, who are you to question his wisdom in making me speak out against his glory, since I’m only doing that to glorify his decision to make me not believe in him. Praise be to god, who does not exist.

All that letter does is reinforce my already firm belief that believers are all nuts. Rev. Spitz above further reinforces this. With people like this how will I ever believe in god? Oh yea, never.
As a side note, I hope everyone had a merry frigging christmas. I did. For me, christmas is a celebration of that holy of holies: Capitalism!

When you start imposing a bunch of arbitrary rules on people based on a set of outlandish assumptions based on the interpretation of an archaic book, people are going to have problems when the interpretations of that book differ to a degree that panic and concern sets in. This is going to cause conflict when genuine believers go out and crusade for their particular interpretations.
So what do I think about this letter gasmonso got? It’s a bunch of crap, just like the rest of religious thought. If you want to believe it, fine. Just don’t go around proselytizing unless you want people like me spitting it right back at you and telling you to get lost.

I find this topic exciting…It is one that must be understood as there are many people hearing from God and doing things that are contrary to scripture…How does this happen ?? No disrepect intented to Rev Spitz but by his thoughts on this subject is the core of the problem….He says God can speak anyway He wants and DO whatever He wants wnenever He chooses….This is a PANDORAS BOX…..We need a map to determine if there is truth in ALL THESE messages God is telling others…Of course the MAP is the Bible, Gods word….People need OBJECTIVE truth…This they can find in the word of God and SEE those who live according to the word of God…Then people will see the FRUIT that shows we are different….God has givenb us a MIND to make wise decisions….One day we will give an account for our walk and it will be based on what GOD ALREADY SAID….We please God by our faith and that comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God…He has spoken and blessed are those who do what they HEAR…Amen and Amnen
