Kent Hovind, affectionately known as Dr Dino, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison on federal tax charges. Hovind was the founder of Creation Science Evangelism and Dinosaur Adventure Land in Pensacola Florida. He was found guilty on 58 federal counts, including failure to pay $845,000 in employee-related taxes. Hovind's defense was a beauty. He contends that he owes no taxes because everything he owns belongs to God. Genius! Well almost. God couldn't be reached for comment ;)
Now to be honest, I am rather pleased to see one of these preachers finally caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Time and time again, these Christian con artists have bilked the ignorant masses of millions and have gotten away free and clear. I will admit though that I am not too pleased with sentencing a man to 10-years for a nonviolent crime, but at this point I'll take anything that sends a message to these people.
I have watched a few of Dr Dino's videos online and will admit that he has a great future as a comedian. His complete disregard for science is hysterical. Seriously, I think a creationist comedian is way overdue to hit the scene. Whoever does it first will be rich! Just remember to pay your taxes!
Thanks go out to Gaianna for the news tip!

“17Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21They say unto him, Caesar’s. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”
-Matthew 22:17-21
In other words, not only will the court accept his excuse, but come judgement, the Savior himself told us directly to pay up. It’s nice when you can so easily find scripture to refute these guys.
Mentally delete “but come judgement” from my last post. re-wrote it and was in too much of a rush to fix.
Just another nail people, just another nail.
I think one of these creation museums exists near where I live. I’ll have to organize a nice little trip out there one day to see all the tax evasion… I mean new ways of looking at the facts.
Oh my science, I just CAN’T WATCH THIS! (age of the earth seminar)… he is so ANNOYING!
Yea, I had to stop watching the age of the earth thing at about 3 minutes in. Absolutely sickening.
I’m glad they found a way to keep this scumbag off the streets… err… stages.
Humanisitic Jones, I planned to go to the Creation Science Museum to ask questions regarding the fact that their science doesn’t apply to other sciences.
I believe this is called karma :)
Seriously, I would love to sit through one of his speeches, he made me laugh a lot harder then most comedians, plus the added bonus for amuzing discussion afterwards.
Okay, correction, its a “Walk through the Bible” museum not a Creation science museum. Oh well. Hey who wants to come on over and walk through the bible? “Worship or die: The history of Judeo-christian Tolerance” section here we come!
He’s no Stephen Colbert, gasmonso
Snurp, there are some things in the Bible, like the passage you quote above, that seem entirely edited in by the Holy Roman Empire. I can’t imagine that they would allow their state religion to have a book which says, “Yeah don’t pay your taxes, especially not to the Romans.” And I also can’t imagine that a Jewish counter-culturalist like Jesus Christ would think otherwise during those times.
The other part that stands out to me is that whole bit about the Romans being all, “Well we weren’t going to *actually* crucify you, because we’re totally cool, but the Jews are all about you dying horribly now, so grab some wood.”
But no scripturist could possibly put the “holy words” into an historical context… They just can’t fit it into their heads.
You know, my mind plays tricks on me. When I see the term “creation science” my mind sees the word science and applys a whole new meaning to the word. Much like when you see the word desert and it can mean multiple unrelated things depending on context. In fact, when I see “creation science” my mind sees it as “creation mythology”. The mind is a strange thing isn’t it?
