It's simple. The usual spiritual illusion, like a mirage.
Monty python has the gift of presenting something that is the opposite of what it should be. Most of us tend to be tricked into believing that 'bishophood', like religion,
is the be and end all of human goodness. Introducing the sinister part of the human character into this sketch makes the whole thing seemingly irreal. Nevertheless, I do believe that chapman, cleese and co. were closer to the truth at that time and were probably afraid to admit it.
Then came 'The life of Brian' and thereafter all barriers fell. Windscreen wipers for our minds!!

Could somebody please explain this sketch? I also don't get it. Is this the kind of sketch that has a deeper meaning or is it a parody of something or is this one of those silly-type of sketch that's funny because it's so silly? :D

I had always wondered why “The One” eluded me for so long…it’s because I’ve found no one who knows anything about the windspeed velocity of swallows!

The best ones are just like that, there is no clear cut, simplified punchline but you have to get it. Some never do but that goes with most jokes.

Not every Monty's sketch has a meaning. Some do, some have very deep ones, and some are just ridiculously funny.
