Here’s a nice little ditty that’ll put you in the weekend mood. It’s a popular song written by Eric Idle that was originally featured in the 1979 film Monty Python’s Life of Brian. Learn more about it here. Enjoy everyone and have a great weekend!

“Well life’s a piece of shit, when you look at it;
Life’s a laugh, a joke, a gas it’s true”
Satire/Comedy at it’s finest.

I’m not ashamed to say, the reason I have the name Brian is because of this film.
Mom - “Michael?”
Father - “Nah… don’t like it.”
Mom - “Johnathan?”
Father - “Nah…”
Mom - “How about Brian, that’s a good name.”
Father - “Yeah, I like that one. Its like that guy in the movie by Monty Python. Let’s go with Brian!”
True story… related to me by my mother 4 years ago. I am Brian of Jeruselem.

My story isn’t nearly so interesting. My mother is a southern baptist christian, an named me after the angel Michael. She had no idea at the time how wrong she was. Well, I guess not so much. Michael is a troublemaker isn’t he? I am the oldest, 2 of my brothers also got biblical names: Mark and Matthew. Not sure where my last brother’s name came from, Christopher. Though I guess you could take it as some form of Christ… I dunno on that one though.
Anyway, would you believe I have never seen that movie? Never saw any of the Monty Python movies actually. Watched some of their shows when I was a kid, funny enough stuff.

Gasmonso, am I insane or didn’t you add a mod to the comments here a while back that was a wysiwyg editor? I see some folks do a quote thing with the big quotes, how do you do that?

If you haven’t seen the movie, please do and have a good laugh.
I love the Sermon on the Mount scene , and the people in the back of the crowds can’t hear Jesus very well, and things get all mixed up.
Blessed are the Cheesemakers….
I won’t spoil it for you, just rent the movie.

Man, I’ve always considered myself a follower of Taoism; and now through my studies I’ve found a adaptation to the Tao, for all the religious people out there.

“Down through the ages, this “rebel shrug” has fortified many successful creeds - Buddhism, Christianity, Sufism, John Lennonism and Fo’-Shizzle-my-Nizzlism. The idea is this: Life is short and complicated and nobody knows what to do about it. So don’t do anything about it. Just take it easy, man. Stop worrying so much whether you’ll make it into the finals. Kick back with some friends and some oat soda and whether you roll strikes or gutters, do your best to be true to yourself and others - that is to say, abide.”

Where is everyone today? There’s nearly 1,000 visitors so far, yet there’s only a handful of us commenting :) Must be Friday or something :)

Well, gasmonso, I have multiple pesonalities so would that make a difference in the number of comments? Asta posted, that’s another five.
Just kidding.
BTW, I enjoyed Shaze’s commentary. I guess I am a Lennonist, because I do believe in his gospel that “life is what happens when you make other plans”.

Gasmonso, re “where is everyone”:
Hey, some of us have to pretend to work for a living :-)
But thanks -the clip is from one of my favourite movies.

Well, now that’s something I’m glad you remind me of, sir. Nothing like Monty Python to cheer up an atheist with sense of humor.

Gasmonso, some of us live in different timezones, too.

NOONE is to stone ANYONE… even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they DO say Jehovah!

Sorry Gasmonso, I’m in a reading-not-commenting mood of late ;) Still here though!

As always, still here. Nice to note that said film is a classic staple of Irish culture nowdays, ever since it was unbanned 8 years after its release.

Hey Skyclad, I’ll be visiting Ireland in May :) Looking forward to visiting some pubs while I’m there. Where abouts are you in Ireland?

Funny thing is I woke up today (Saturday) thinking about this song and how fitting it would be on this site. After getting my morning coffee ready (it’s 3pm here now, I like to sleep late…) I open the browser up, and here it is…
Must have been a sign from some divinity, don’t you think? ;)
Love Monty Python, bought the DVD box of their films a while back, every time I hear something said by the pope about contraceptives (sp?) I think about the song ‘Every sperm is sacred’ from ‘The Meaning of Life’ - wonderful piece of work…

Surprisingly, I already heard the song today. Or at least the half of it that Eric Idle sang at Graham Chapman’s funeral. I was watching the video again to see John Cleese become the first person to use the word “fuck” in a British funeral ceremony. Classic.

Gasmonso, I have always wanted to visit Ireland. Its a little dream of mine that I doubt I will ever be able to afford. You going to get lots of pictures to share with us so we can live your trip vicariously through you?
February 24th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
@Michael:
I will be there for 10 days and probably travel throughout most off the country. I’ll have my camera to document the entire journey. I’m pretty excited as I haven’t been in Europe since 2000.
Hopefully I’ll get some pointers from other readers who have traveled there. It should be a great trip!
I should be in Vegas this Spring again for a conference. Maybe I’ll post some pics from that trip as well.
Hmmmm, maybe I’ll start a religiousfreaks road trip and quit my job :)
