The 2007 Easter Under Attack season is well under way on the Colbert Report. The first installment goes out to Walnut Creek California where the nation has just learned something utterly shocking. The city has changed the name Easter Bunny to Spring Bunny and Easter Egg Hunt to Spring Egg Hunt. Hilarity ensues!

Stephen Colbert is so hilarious. The fact he can hold a straight face while playing his satire to the hilt makes me consistently have to remind myself not to drink anything I don’t mind spraying my monitor with while watching his clips. Thanks for the brightening of my morning gasmonso.

but wait… aren’t we still left with a pagan fertility celebration? seems like good ol’ walnut creek (for the record, i live in a neighboring town) is just trading town-sponsorship of one religion for town-sponsorship of another. nothing like a holy-day to get everyone’s panties in a twist…

Probably not, I remember when I lived in Valencia for a while and there they had a thingy were you’d go down to the beach on 22 June and light fires. Obviously a pagan summer solstice festival but conveniently rebranded “el dia de San Juan”. A quick veneer of respectability in the form of St. John and you’ve god a christian festival!!!
Got to credit the christians for that, subverting existing religious pap so that people could still have their festivals, just in the name of another imaginary god.

I think that’s why Colbert and Stewart are unpopular with young people and evangelicals. But to be fair, John is a racist asshole… but I doubt many people are aware of that fact, so I guess it doesn’t really effect the tally.
I think they’re hilarious, though IMHO Steven was better on the Daily Show.
By the way, I wouldn’t call what Colbert and Stewart so “subtle” by ant stretch of the word. ;) Some people are just ill-equipped to deal with anything that doesn’t fit with their poor excuse for a world view.
