Elesheiva, i am curious, who owns this restaurant and what is their nationality of this restaurant?

I believe they're breaking the franchise agreement and should be told(the mother company) of this unfair behaviour.

i believe hooters is a US company, right? anyone?

I hope the Hooters in Tel aviv treats its workers better than the one in Netanya (Poleg) did. Ofer Ahiraz hired a mostly Arab staff so he could take advantage and pay them less, the Jewish staff he did hire were paid a little more but were not paid for any holidays and no transport. He worked them on Shabbat with no overtime paid. They worked double shifts with no over time compensation. I hope every laid off worker from The Netanya Hooters will go to the Histadrut.

This discussion is quite interesting, and it seems that there are a great deal of assumptions being made by people who have no understanding of what it actually is to be a Hooters Girl.

I'd like to clear a few things up.

I live in Washington, which means my hourly (minimum) wage is just over $8/hr, plus tips. Obviously, working twenty to thirty hours a week at that wage does not amount to more than around two hundred bucks or so, once taxes and whatnot are subtracted. That is where tips come in to play. Most of the Hooters patrons tip at least 20%, all the way up to 100%, depending upon the guy, his waitress, and the quality of service that he received. Girls frequently earn tips of $50 or $100 for serving just one or two people. Compared to other restaurants in the area, that is excellent money.

It is true that in especially upscale restaurants, where food prices are exorbitantly high, similar tips can be made, but as a waitress, those places are not particularly fun places to work. You must be very quiet, discreet, and somber in such restaurants. Hooters, however, is a fun, vibrant, upbeat place. Servers are encouraged to goof off, joke around with their servers and other employees, and have a good time.

The objectification of the Hooters servers is a valid point, however my time working at a family diner yielded a higher number of assholes than my time at Hooters had, and the diner was not very well equipped to handle such incidents, unlike Hooters.

Lastly, there is a lot of talk about the exploitation of women at Hooters. As anyone who has ever worked at Hooters knows, Hooters is the site of a great deal of exploitation, however the vast majority of exploitation is of the men who frequent the restaurant. Men and boys come in on a daily basis to look at pretty women, eat bar food, and watch sports games. These men and boys have the opportunity to talk to gorgeous women, women who might not otherwise give them the time of day. In exchange for their conversation and attention, the men are expected to tip well. Essentially, men are paying exorbitant amounts of money to talk to pretty women. Who's being exploited? Besides, all parties know exactly what they are getting in to when the walk in to a Hooters. It's not exactly some top secret club.

"He offered me a Snickers bar once. But he wanted two dollars for it and it can be purchased at a vending machine for less than half that."

This is a joke, right? Nobody's THAT Jewish!

"I have made a habit of visiting Hooters in Manhattan on a regular basis to find out just which talmidim might be there. I often have to wait two or three hours on a given night before I see someone I recognize. These are agonizing periods for me as I must endure the temptations of uncountable nubile young women."

Apparently some rabbi is trying to get it to be Kosher....

Hooters Israel Should be Kosher
"The Rabbi's Corner"
by Rabbi Dovid Zev-Yad
It was recently announced that the restaurant chain Hooters has opened a franchise in Tel Aviv. Hooters, for those of you who do not know, is a popular American restaurant chain famous for its waitresses who dress in low cut shirts and short tight skirts. It goes without saying that these establishments demean women and should not be patronized by any Jewish man. But there remains the halachic issue of their kashrut status. Given that many Jewish men do frequent Hooters, it would certainly be better if they were at least eating kosher, rather than treif, while ogling scantily clad women.
Some readers are no doubt thinking that no Torah Jew who keeps kosher would dare set foot in such a place, so the question is irrelevant. But of course many Jewish men are not Torah Jews, and we need to help them keep all the mitzvot nonetheless. This includes kashrus. Each Jew practices religion according to his or her ability and it is the job of us engaged in kiruv to encourage them in their observance as much as we can. To this end, we need to press the management of the Hootersin Israel to make their establishment kosher.
In addition, the sad fact is that many otherwise Torah observant Jews do frequent immoral businesses like Hooters. I can tell you that I have personally seen many of my own Yeshiva students patronize Hooters in the past. I have made a habit of visiting Hooters in Manhattan on a regular basis to find out just which talmidim might be there. I often have to wait two or three hours on a given night before I see someone I recognize. These are agonizing periods for me as I must endure the temptations of uncountable nubile young women. It is all I can do to avoid their flirtations and keep my mind on Hashem. The only thing I have found that works is to repeat to myself the words from Eshet Chayil, "Shecker haChen, v'hevel ha'yofi." or "Grace is deceptive, beauty is illusory." My trial is made even worse since I have nothing to consume except water. I have asked the manager if I could bring my own food, but he told me that it is not allowed. He offered me a Snickers bar once. But he wanted two dollars for it and it can be purchased at a vending machine for less than half that. Besides, since I keep chalov yisrael, I would not eat it anyway.
When I finally do encounter a student of mine, as is usually the case, it is all worth it. I invite him to sit at my table, and together we talk for an hour or two. I ask him to point out which waitress is most tempting to him, and which of her features awakens his yetzer harah (evil inclination). We study each and every employee and talk about why God tests us. And in the end, I always reach the boy. But it would be a lot easier if I had something to eat while I engage in this most holy of tasks.
I dined at home of my Rosh Yeshiva recently and I asked him about the possibility of giving shiurim at Hooters. He initially said that such a thing would be unacceptable. But later that day, privately after Mincha, he told me that he had rethought the idea and that it might be worth trying. After I took him to Hooters myself, and he had seen it first hand, he told me that he was in complete agreement. He even offered to help me teach the shiurim. But there is still the nagging issue about the Kashrus of the food. God willing, the management will be able to work with us to provide for our needs.

In addition to writing his weekly column for The Sentinel, Rabbi Zev-Yad teaches at the Pinsker Yeshiva in Monsey. He is also in the process of finishing a book entitled, "A Thousand Ways to Test Your Yetzer Harah", which will be published in 2009.

A sizable segment of the Israeli population does not keep kosher. That Hooters is not kosher is fine with many
Isrealis. The McDonald's outlets in Israel are not kosher
and are placarded as such, but it doesn't stop them from
doing a lively business.

Keef, they only get that much hourly because they are expected to earn a lot more off of tips. Of course, this still sucks for servers working non-peak hour shifts. However, my ex-girlfriend works at a Hooters, and she says it's actually in the non-peak hours there that the creepy "regulars" come in that will tip excessively. On the weekends I know she's been making $200+ a night.
Personally, if I were a female, (and of course still attractive, haha) I would be quite the whore. Finding a job to make decent money while in college for males is a wee bit more difficult, haha.

Also, I know there are Hooters in other parts of the world already, such as China and Sweden anyway. However, I don't think it's so wise to put one in the middle-east... I'm with Unbeliever on saying it'd be a good idea to start taking bets on how long it takes one to become a terrorist target.
