From what I’ve heard, Hinduism isn’t exactly a unified religion. The above is definitely an example of belief twisted to an extreme.

I am from India and this news makes me feel sad for the chap who ‘offered’ his tongue.
I trust you all know that this is in no way ‘prescribed’ by the Hindu religion/philosophy.
It would be interesting to know how ‘Hinduism’ has been altered to suit needs of a few.

Beautiful. It’s rare in this world for people to have conviction. To sacrifice ones word as a symbol of surrender and devotion to the Divine Mother shows quite the conviction.

I think it’s better to be a fool and go over board in the name of something greater then it is to fearfully hold onto life and engage in worship of the flesh.

While clearly quite an extremely demonstration to the Gods (and I’d have to say in many respects entirely unnecessary), I think it’s more indicative of passion then insanity.

What really worries me is what you get if you input Iraq Stoning into google. This is as bad as it gets, and gives another meaning to Religious Freaks. Start another thread, Threadmeister…. I read this in the daily paper and didn’t actually believe it.

Am I the only one who thought of Indiana Jones here? I All I can see in my mind right now is some freaky guy ripping someone’s heart out, and Indy drinking that poison from the severed head on a stick.

Good movie. At least all his verbal attempts to convert people will be misunderstood.

This is a perfect example of why religion is so dangerous. If a person can do this to THEMSELVES in the name of god, imagine what they can do to others. Oh, wait. Don’t imagine. History has many fine examples of the insanity god faith causes in people.
