Leave it to the English to provide yet another fine piece of comedic entertainment. Rowan Atkinson, famous for his roles in Mr. Bean and Blackladder, has some outstanding standup material.
In this clip Atkinson plays the roll of the devil and welcomes a variety of newcomers to hell. You can guess what type of people you’d find there. You have your standard assortment of violent offenders and criminals, but Atkinson throws out a few hilarious surprises.
If you thought you were going to heaven, you better have a look at this video. Apparently Atkinson foresees entire nationalities and even a well-known religion are headed for hell.
Enjoy this brilliant clip and have a few laughs :)

Haven’t seen that old classic in yonks. I love the sting in the tail for the christians. As for atheists, I think it goes without saying if there is a hell, doesn’t matter what good book is right, we’re screwed! Viva la revolución! Ateismo hasta la muerte!

Never seen that before, quite hilarious. I about spit out my drink when he said “The French!”. Haha

Christians, Christians? oh I’m sorry, I’m afraid the jews were right.
lol
delicious!

Except, of course, that the Jews don’t believe in the Devil :-)

old but good.
I never figured how the Mr Bean movies took off.
rowan atkinson is a genius to whom Gervais although talented can only aspire.
From his debut on Not The Nine O’Clock News (more than 20 years ago) through his writing for the Young Ones and others to the BlackAdder series - which remains the mostly quotable of British comedy.
Mr Bean is not representative of Atkinson wit. Only his performance skills.

@jason
Rowan Atkinson did not write any of the Young Ones. He wrote the first series of BlackAdder; the other 3 were by the same person who (co) wrote the Young Ones. Perhaps that is the source your confusion?

The CD version (Live from Belfast) of this skit was funnier IMO. Instead of the French it was the Americans. Plus a few other differences. Probably, like many performers, he changes parts depending on the audience.

It can’t be true, were are the English. Unless they bulit the place.
May 8th, 2007 at 8:27 pm
Did you mean to say he eats the roll of the devil? Or was it supposed to be butters?
June 21st, 2007 at 7:28 pm
Interesting…he sents the Christians to the hell because of political correctness…
Now I’m proud of being politically incorrect Christian guy.
June 22nd, 2007 at 9:33 pm
Hilarious!
But to clarify: the video misrepresents Judaism and I also think guy is right and he selected Christians to be politically correct.
July 24th, 2007 at 3:40 pm
Political correctness my arse. Here’s what Rowan Atkinson has to say on the subject: http://tinyurl.com/8fakt

Wouldn’t it be better to beleive in heaven and hell and that God exists while living, than to be wrong and find out the truth when it’s too late to change your mind? Personally, I would rather be safe as a Christian and believe what the Bible says is true about what happens when you die. As a Christian, if there is no afterlife and what I believe isn’t true, then I have nothing to lose. Then, all I’ve done my entire life is live by a set of rules that leave the world a better place.
October 9th, 2007 at 3:02 pm
Ah, tired-old Pascal’s Wager. Wouldn’t it be just as safe to believe that the burial rights of ancient Egyptian Pharaohs are necessary for a happy afterlife? And aren’t you taking the exact same risk with respect to Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Nordic mythology, and every other of the hundreds of belief systems with an afterlife?
“Then, all I’ve done my entire life is live by a set of rules that leave the world a better place.”
Although your particular way of practicing Christianity may leave the world a better place, I doubt that this is true in general. For instance, there are large parts of Africa that are AIDS stricken and overpopulated despite the availability of condoms all because of how Catholic missionaries practice their version of Christianity. These people are not leaving the world a better place. Indeed, they are leaving it in much worse shape. This is but one example of how living by a set of rules provided by Christianity hurts people.

Besides, in adition to what Sid pointed out, one cannot force true belief.
Sure, I can feign piety, go to church every sunday and pray three times a day, but it would all be fake. So even if you are, by massive ammounts of luck, correct, it still wouldn’t make any difference.
You cannot flip a switch and say “By jove, those people are right, if I don’t belief in god, i’ll end up in hell. Better start praying”

There is no doubt there will be a slew of Christians in Hell. Not because the Jews were right, but because being a Christian has nothing to do with truth and salvation. Modern day Christianity is a cult religion with liars leading blind mice.
July 2nd, 2008 at 8:52 am
That comment is a huge generalisation, narrow minded and unneeded. Rather than argue about why the christians appear in hell, why not marvel at the perfection of his timing and his extraordinary ability to say anything without infering insult.

I have just watched with my young family ‘We Are Amused’. My family and myself were Mr.Bean fans until this evening. We are Christians and were totally shocked at Rowan Akinson’s performance about our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I am amazed how Mohamed is not mentioned in comedy, perhaps this is because of fear of reprisals in the form of bombs left at TV studios. I feel Christains are easy targets for so called comedians. I feel appaled at the content of Rowan Atkinson’s material. I challenge him to make fun of Allah. We will no longer have Rowan Atkinson viewed in this house. Shame on Him

Keith Gault, re post 20,
The shame should be on you, for indoctrinating your young family with the dogma known as Christianity. Hopefully, your kids will escape your home from time to time and be exposed to some rational thought. Maybe they’ll even be exposed to some vintage George Carlin, if they’re lucky.
Christianity is a prime subject for comedy, because Christian rituals and beliefs are so ridiculous.
November 22nd, 2008 at 4:53 pm
Korgan I’d love to meet you and talk about your views on my family. I protect them as I am ment to do. From idiots like you who claim indoctrinating. When it’s people like you who make Britain a Godless Nation. With left wing anything goes state. When a day of prayer was called during the second world war to call out to God to help the nation. And Britain won look up uour history. But then your family was probably on it’s knees yodelling to Allah. When every one else was fighting for their country.I would be prepared to meet you face to face you left wing socialist faggot. You’re probably a Pedophile. So if you want to make contact with me just say and I’ll gladly meet you.
November 22nd, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Keith Gault,
Don’t try to paint all of Great Britain with the same stain that you paint yourself with, and sadly, that you are trying to paint your young family with.
Your attack on me and your threats are an embarrassment to Britons, including many generations of my own family. Shame on you, and how very typically Christian of you.
Britain obviously has much to be proud of, in regard to the world wars of the last century, the essential founding of democracy, scientific and economic progress, and much, much more, but religion deserves no credit for that. Britain is an increasingly secular place, and the place of yourself and others of your ilk in it is diminishing, as it should.
Left wing socialist? No, I’m a capitalist and generally regarded as right wing, but I do not identify at all with so-called right wing christian fundamentalists. Your ability to discern reality is clearly more than a little lacking there, and in your religious fiction.
Again, shame on you.
November 22nd, 2008 at 11:45 pm
You’re offended by satire and then talk like this: “I would be prepared to meet you face to face you left wing socialist faggot. You’re probably a Pedophile. So if you want to make contact with me just say and I’ll gladly meet you.”?
Easy to make big windy threats when you’re hiding behind a computer. Easy to call names too. Is that what you teach your children, to call names and threaten people?
And by the way, MY country, the USA, saved your British ass in the war, and don’t you forget it, you ingrate.
You might want to brush up on your spelling too.

To believers: I am honestly ashamed of my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ sometimes. Name calling, threatening, and being completly out of line is not “loving your neighbor.” Yes, I agree that making fun of anyone for believing in Christ is utterly sickening; but, retaliating and getting angry is not the way to handle it. You pray for them to realize that Christ is exactly who He said He was, and for them to come to saving knowledge that, we are, in fact, sinners. And, in desperate need of a Savior. Please be mindful of what you say to people because that is how christians have developed a “bad” name with unbelievers. And a lot of times it keeps unsaved people from the truth.
To unbelievers: I apologize for the way christians act sometimes (including myself). Please keep in mind that we are not perfect and that we are human just like you. When we say what the LORD’s standards are, we aren’t meaning that we have met them; we are just saying that we have asked for forgivness of not meeting them. These standards are not something we have made up; they can be found in the Bible. I am not going to tell you that you need to “repent,” (which means to change), I am just going to challenge you to ’see for yourself.’ Please don’t take anyone’s so-called advice on the matter. I’m just going to ask you to pray and ask the LORD to reveal Himself to you. If you don’t believe that there is a God, you will be amazed to get an answer. He always answers. It might be subtle or He might send someone knocking at your door to ’share the Gospel,’ but whatever it is, you will be changed from the inside out. Just ask Him. He loves you and wants you to call out to Him. He’s waiting. Ask yourself what you have to lose. If I’m wrong, than you can laugh and just call me a crazy lady, but if I’m right and He changes your life, won’t it be worth it?
October 11th, 2009 at 8:18 am
aREALchristainlady, your post is remarkably full of the No True Scotsman Fallacy. That is a particularly common fallacy that preachy Christians often get trapped in.
You would benefit from an understanding of this fallacy before you post here again, so take some time and do some reading about basic fallacies. A good starting point for you is here:
http://atheism.about.com/od/logicalfallacies/a/notruescotsman.htm
Furthermore, thanks for the apology, but it is not merely your fellow Christians at fault, but rather that your religion itself itself promotes evil and violence. See here
http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/long.html
for some fine documentation of the shear nastiness of the religion that you are trying to promote. That’s some “standard” that you are claiming adherence to, and no wonder your people are so evil.
Take your horrid, evil religion and shove it.
Religion is ridiculous.
November 5th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
Uh…I’m fairly certain that what Rowan means is that the Jews were right about Jesus not being the savior. Actually, I’m certain that’s what he means.
