Now here’s a story that proves fiction is stranger than truth. Thank Shaze for the tip-off.
Today in Australia, 33-year-old Englishman Alexander Christian York, was sentenced to five years in prison for the manslaughter of Scotsman Rudi Boa last January.
The two were chance neighbors at a caravan park on vacation. His girlfriend Gillian Brown accompanied Boa and both were biomedical scientists. Both were evolutionists. York had a more religious view on things and was a creationist.
The three were at a local pub arguing evolution and putting back several pints (never a good idea.) It didn’t take too long for tempers to flare and a shouting match to occur.
The drunken trio returned to their campground and continued their debate as York began preparing dinner outside his tent with a kitchen knife (definitely not a good idea.) It wasn’t long till York “accidentally” misplaced his kitchen knife inside Boa’s body, thus ending the argument once and for all.

I will add the point of “not arguing with a creationist when he has got some arms in and around” in my list of “tactics to be used while debating creationist”. But one thing i didn’t really get. “Both were evolutionist” but York also believed in creationism. Is there something wrong or am i stupid?
not true vko, the english York had taken a more biblical view of history. Would this view make him a christian? In reality the englishman was a backpacker in Australia. The englishman has seen the beauty and the majesty that God has created in Australia, therefore taking a creationist view point(to me). The issue at hand was their views on creation vs evolution, english vs scottsman, drinking and the pride that each was right in their beliefs.

Rudi Boa and his girlfriend Gillian Brown were biomedical scientists and evolutionists. The profession of York was not revealed in the news I have read about it.

The englishman is paying the price for killing the scottsman. the judge ordered a “sentenced to a maximum of five years in jail, with a non-parole period of three years.”
So, the killer is paying the price set forth by the New South Wales Supreme Court.
Guys, the end result for all parties involved is destruction of human lives. a wasted life in jail, a waste life gone forever and a broken heart in tears, Mr Boa’s(scottsman) sister Debbie.

Is violence really the answer to religion (or any ignorance)? I really don’t think so. Violence is often the result of irrationality and ignorance. That is one of the main reasons I oppose it. Using violence to achieve that goal is hypocritical and counter productive.
It also fuels the stereotype of the immoral atheist. Hyrocket may go back to his Christian friends and family and say, “I tried talking to some atheists until they threatened to beat up Christians if I talked about Jesus”. This would confirm everything they assume about atheists.
Please, stick to rational arguments and evidence.

It’s true, violence is NEVER the answer to any question; intelligent or not. Is violence really the answer to religion and ignorance though? Well that sir, is where me and you seem to differ.
There are too many what-if’s to eliminate the possibility that disapline could not correct these problems. I am all for laws forbidding the religious from doing anything within society until they have been educated properly. You’re religious? No voting for you. Beleive that birth or medicine is a miracle? No hostipals for you. Think Bush or Conservative values should be embraced by everyone? You can’t vote.
You wanna convert someone or preach your religion over others? Go live in Israel.

Shaze, I can certainly understand the frustration that can lead to your current train of thought. Unfortuneately I must disagree with your concept. Leaving all arguments of effectiveness aside, there are two points I would like to make.
I don’t see how you can discipline people on there beliefs or thoughts. There actions however are a different story. If somebody believes that medicine is is a miricle fine I have no problem with that. It’s the murky water of where they impose that belief on a child or family member and endager their life that rules must be placed. You cannot and I do not believe you should dictate to people what they think or believe. Such actions would be commiting the same injustice that the religous types would like to impose on us. Somewhere along the lines rules would be imposed against something you believe in and the situation would end up being the same.
Second I think you should think along these lines. If Hyprocket said to you that everytime you implied or suggest that the christian God was a fallacy he would punch an athiest in the face. Would that change the way you feel? I would doubt it. It does highlight how you feel but I hope it doesn’t demonstrate the way you act.
