Yesterday I read an interesting story here about an Iranian exile that goes by the pseudonym of Sooreh Hera. Hera is a photographer in the Netherlands who’s on a dangerous mission to expose the “hypocritical” attitude towards homosexuality in countries such as Iran, where men can be hanged for homosexual conduct.
There were probably a few different ways in which Hera could have approached the subject. She could take a subtler politically correct route or she could skip the foreplay and get right down to business. Hera chose the latter.
Being a photographer, and having balls of steel apparently, Hera decided to go for broke. She photographed gay Iranian exiles wearing masks of the Prophet Muhammed and his cousin Ali. She also created a video featuring hard rock, Iranian clerics, and gay men. Then to top things off she made it an exhibit at a local museum!
As expected, the local Muslim extremists were none too pleased. Hera has received several threats and recently went into hiding. Furthermore Hera’s exhibit, which was initially praised by the museum’s director, has been forced to remove the photographs because “certain people in our society might perceive it as offensiveâ€. Hera’s response was to pull her entire exhibit in protest.

I think it’s a good thing to confront people with what they think is normal and make them think about their believes. That goes for everyone, no matter what race or religion.

I am all for freedom of religion, freedom of expression, and all the other freedoms that people so often tout these days. However, conflict is inevitable, in the most extreme case I would not be free to live if you were free to kill me. So thus we must compromise some of our freedom’s for the overall good of society. In some states we place restrictions on the ability to use and or own: drugs, alcohol, weapons, motor-vehicles etc… Some states have gone to the extreme by restricting: information, religion, dress code, sexual preference, etc.. In most civilized states, a compromise has been reached whereby most people seem happy (or at least content to remain or attempt to change things by peaceful means) with the freedoms that have been restricted and those that are allowed to be expressed freely.
As it applies to this situation. It is my understanding that Muslims regard the picture of Muhammad as sacred. It is also my understanding that Museums are public places where all are free to enjoy themselves. To place such an exhibit in a place as this would compel me to think that most Muslims would avoid it. However I am not sure if that is protecting the right of free speech or if it is restricting Muslims access to the museum. Is it so open-minded as to restrict(essentially - though not through a physical barrier) access to a public place based on ones religion?

In post 16, we see just more evidence of a failed religion that is hopefully in its last gasps. Violence and intimidation are not the tactics of a way of life that merits following, whether or not it is shrouded in the protective trappings of a religion.
If your purported god were omnipotent as claimed, there would be no need for your own attempts to suppress Sooreh Hera’s art, including your sickening and despicable threats of violence.

The lunar surface has been pretty thoroughly explored and imaged remotely. Several US Apollo missions have even landed there. You’d think it would be better known if what you say is the case.
Regardless, within what you say is another one of many common problems with both Islam and Christianity: if there really is an active, omnipotent god such as either religion claims, one would hardly expect that god to be so incapable of making its existence obvious on a terrestrial level daily, and not just via ancient texts of questionable veracity and origin.
You are young, and hopefully over time some consideration of these and other problems will move you away from believing the fairy tales of religions. The world will be a better place with less belief-iness and more rational thought.

A while back there was play written and produced that was about Jesus being gay along with all his apostles. It was produced in Texas and Christians protested, but no one rioted, no one was killed, nothing got burned down. Pat Condell has a video at YouTube about Jesus being gay. Someone on here (korgan, was that you) posted a picture of Jesus being fucked by or fucking mohammed - I can’t remember who was doing what to whom. And on this site, go to the Hunky Jesus page.
As for your ravings about allah’s name appearing here there and everywhere, see korgan’s response and also remember that there have been plenty of sightings of Jesus and Mary appearing on tortillas, on baking pans, on the window of a bank, on a potato chip, just to list some of the ones I remember. Those were as silly and deluded as your allah business. The Lakota see a rabbit in the moon, so there you have it: Human minds fill in missing details so that a picture that makes sense will seem to appear. Someone on here wrote about that phenomenon.
So you were angry - it would be nice to see a muslin on here who was not angry, but it seems to be a constant state with you. So you did not mean that you do not shit on other religions? Plenty of other muslims do - just start googling to see the state of terror non-muslims live in in muslim countries. See how the attacks against Jews have increased in Europe wherever there are large populations of muslims. Rape also goes way way up in countries with large populations of muslims get established. Someone else here once pointed out to an angry muslim poster the difference between the tone and intent when Christians (and I’ll add Jews) post here and when muslims post here. The recent posts in this thread just re-affirm that the muslim posters tend to be violently inclined issuing not just condemnations to hell as the Christians do but also screaming personal insults and, more importantly, threatening to murder people, either posters or Gasmonso or both. They also re-affirm that muslims have no answers to the problems posed by the violence at the heart of their “religion” nor are they willing to talk about them honestly. So they walk around in their deluded state of believing themselves persecuted when they are the ones murdering innocent people, persecuted when they are the ones denying people the right to their own religions, persecuted when they are the ones trying to curtail other people’s rights, persecuted when everyone does not just stop and just do muslims’ bidding. And, of course, if you point this out or point out the violence done in allah’s name, you are an islamophobe or a racist or both. What blind fools they be.

Personally, I think your post 36 is really accurate. Right on.
On a less significant note, notice that the Islamic posters are the ones who most often resort to all caps (as you’ve noted, implying screaming, of course), more than posters from other religions. Maybe there’s a cultural reason for that, that I’m not aware of, but it sure isn’t helping to get across whatever points (if any) that such posters have to make. I say that because I find the all-caps posts harder to read, so that in fact shouting all the time is less effective than a well-considered post in normal tone. Not that the ALL CAPS posters typically have anything of substance to say anyway. Well, if they did, I’d have a hard time finding it.
It’s too bad; I was kind of looking forward to real dialog with imran, without the shouting.

Thanks, Korgan. And I agree on the all caps posts - very annoying and usually without substance. Maybe it’s like Goering’s (I think) statement that the people will believe any lie if it’s big enough.
That fact and the cyber slang (y = why, u = you) has pretty much convinced me that imran is a teenager. It was the cyber slang mostly because so many of the muslims posting here seem to have the emotional maturity of a teenager (about 14 years old) that sometimes it’s hard to tell. The hypersensitivity, the readiness to escalate to fury in seconds, the belief that the world revolves around them so everyone should do as they say, and so on. Not that all teenagers are like that. In fact, I hoped muslimboy of a while back might actually debate rationally, but in the end he was true to form: utterly ignoring the facts in favor of his fantasy.
As for a dialog, I am also convinced that the only muslims who can talk rationally about islam are the ones who have seen it for what it is and left, such as Hirsi Ali - or at least practice a limited “reformed” version. And if they speak out, they risk death. Hence the great silence form whatever moderate muslims there might be out there, if any.
And, of course, muslims are bent on shutting down any criticism of islam both at the UN level and in individual countries. I hope everyone here is following the travesty know as the Canadian Human Rights Commission which Canadian muslims use over and over to shut down any mention of the violence inherent in islam and manifested everywhere around the world. Beware multiculturalism because that’s where it starts. By forgetting that not every culture is equal. And before anyone gets their shorts in a knot, let me add I am all for multi-racial and multi-ethnic societies, but one national culture.

Imran and Rucker, I think this debate between you two is more personal and directed towards showing who can write about more violence or be more aggressive in justifying who is right, but sadly you both are defeating the entire purpose of highlighting the problem!
Every religion has extremists; Islam is not the first one. Imran as a Muslim you must know that we are taught to be more tolerant and understanding, writing comments in uppercase does not make you sound right. Actions speak louder than words, if Rucker has a problem and is abusing that shows his ignorance but the fact that you respond in the same manner shows your ignorance about Islam too… you and people like you, who respond in such anger are no different than people who hate Islam, infact it’s because of people like you that Islam and Muslims are misunderstood.
There is no Surah that asks Muslims to go out and kill innocent, to understand the meaning of any Surah it’s important to understand under what context it has been written, Holy Quran does not just ask people to wake up go out and kill on impulse!

I have been musing on the accusation that I am “abusing” something. From imran we get the pugnacious “now u christians and jews or wutever listen, and listen close”, “UR religion is litterly trash which i shit on everyday”, “get that answer in ur frickin mind!”, “jugdement day wont come until all jews are DEAD even rocks will say: ALLAH my holy god theres a jew hiding behind me KILL HIM!”, “SHUT UP MAN JUST SHUT UP”, “UR JUST DUMB JUST SIMPLY DUMB”, but I am the abusive one. This is one of the reasons more and more people are getting sick of muslims: We can see the difference between what is happening and what muslims want us to believe.

We find out about hatred and intolerance being taught in mosques all over the non-muslim world, so are those muslims not muslims? What are we misunderstanding? Are you saying imran misunderstands islam when he says that the rocks and trees will cry out to kill the Jews hiding behind them? But isn’t that a part of islam? Or did the Pope or the Jooos sneak that into islam? We are told over and over that the headscarf or the burqa is a sign of respect for women and that they choose to wear them, but even a cursory look at the islamic world makes it clear and obvious that that is simply not true, but we are condemned as racists, as “having a problem” for saying so. This is another reason people are getting tired and distrustful of muslims. You keep insisting that we have to believe what is patently and demonstrably untrue!
And you hide behind the word “innocent”. We hear this all the time too. That islam does not permit the killing of innocent people. But what is left out is the islamic definition of “innocent”. It’s quite different than the western definition. So let me ask you, were the people murdered on 9/11 innocent or guilty? Obviously the 19 murderers didn’t think they were innocent, and 18 of them were from Saudi Arabia, the physical heart of islam. Presumably they got a pure version of islam when they were growing up. Are the Israeli children murdered by muslims innocent? Were the Chechnyan school children murdered by muslims innocent? All of these people were murdered by people who consider themselves good muslims, and I see nothing that suggest that they are not since their actions were in keeping with islamic teaching. You have a real public relations problem there.

Hyrocket’s posts could pretty much be ignored, since he is still spewing the same old preaching with no evidence to support it. There is no supportable “truth” in what hyrocket says, and a lot of contradiction.
As noted previously and repeatedly by other posters, Christianity also has an undeniable history of violence. While it is now less violent than Islam, it remains anti-reason and anti-science. Luckily some of the evolution-deniers of Christian creationist wacko Sarah Palin’s ilk just got knocked away from power in the US. That is a step forward, although there are warning signs of elements from that same wacko group resorting to extremist measures now that they have less sway in government. Something to be on guard for in future.
As I think Christopher Hitchens said, “religion poisons everything”.

Re post 54, yes, thanks for the link. I looked at the link, as did other posters here. Seeing a god or prophets name in that image, especially via connecting apparent dots, is merely a case of confirmation bias and isn’t legitimate evidence. You are merely seeing what you want to see, without considering other possibilities, such as other shapes and dot connections.
For example, a viewer could easily alternately claim that in the exact same image, the dark areas are meatballs representing the great Flying Spaghetti Monster, and since those meatballs are much bigger than the supposed Allah writing, one can conclude that His Noodliness is much greater than Allah. Again, confirmation bias.
So, really you have again reinforced my statement that religion is ridiculous.

imran, glad you are coming back to that question. And here is my answer to you:
Science has changed somewhat over time. However, aspects of science, such as observation gathering and the early use of postulates about empirical evidence to better understand and as a predictive advantage, appears to date back to the dawn of humanity, many tens of thousands of years ago. More formal science as a discipline is not nearly so old. Commonly used aspects of modern science such as publication and peer review are much newer, and have modified science and accepted scientific practice on more than just scale. The body of knowledge that is part and parcel of science has obviously also grown and changed over time, as have the tools of the trade. In both of these senses, science is demonstrably man-made, and to a degree, still under construction.
So, there is your answer, from my perspective as a scientist. However, there is a more fundamental question than the one you are asking. Why do you think it is the case that what exists must have had a maker. Then, how can that maker possibly be Allah, since, taking science for example, the Quran is so far wrong on many points of science.

In all honesty, I can’t stand to read just about any post by these religious freaks, too much dribble and poo. If your Allah is so powerful there should be no reason that the whole world isn’t Muslim. However, since the world isn’t your Allah must not be that powerful or exist at all.

I know that MarcDLS knows this, but it bears repeating that facts rarely have any place in the believer’s mind when it comes to his beliefs (regardless of the religion). And add to that the fact that imran is himself a proven and self-confessed liar, and all we have to do is sit back and enjoy the show.
I think my favorite from this latest pile of monkey turds is “ALLAH did not say everyone should NEVER ay a bad word or NEVER do anything wrong”. We certainly know that whenever mohammed wanted to indulge in some lust for little girls, or slaves, or loot, or commit some other crime, allah popped up to give him permission.
One troubling thing, however: He mentions that 50 people died in “this country” when he is lying about 9/11. That implies that this pig-worm is living in the USA. Of course, as a muslim he is not supposed to settle among the kafirs but here he is, for the money no doubt and living in sin. So, since he is forbidden by his religion to settle here, and since he hates America and non-muslims, and because certainly no one in the USA wants him here, I invite him to take his unwiped ass back to the home country.

hyrocket - I am probably going to regret asking this.
If god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten etc., then what about all the people in the world at the time that had no chance of even hearing of Jesus before they died? Did god not love them? Were they expendable molecules only? If god understood the unfairness of the situation he created, and he took them into heaven too, then why didn’t he tell us that? I mean he knowingly condemned millions of people to hell for something they could not help, right? That’s even weirder than giving people sinful natures and then condemning them for the natures he gave them.

my dad provided everything, a child could want and maybe more-if asked. But the one thing i remember like it was now, that is brunt into my brain, is that my dad bowed a knee at the cross after the mass(i was catholic) and as a young child-honestly i did not know what to think but i remembered that humblness -which i know now. He bowed at the cross of Jesus and cried. i can only imagine what his prayer was.
Did my dad know the answers to this world which we ask and wonder about. I don’t think so, But this I know, just like Gasmonso knows, that we love our kids and will provide and protect them, that they will live happy and good lives.
