Congratulations Bart on your accomplishment! And to think I’m only on Operating Thetan 6. Oh well :(
From LifeLineLive:
Fox is having a cow over an automated voicemail message left by Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, recruiting attendees for a Church of Scientology event, reports USA TODAY’s Gary Levin. In the message, Cartwright, who introduces herself as Bart in the character’s voice, says she is “now auditing on new OT 7,” and invites recipients to Scientology’s “Flag World Tour” event in Los Angeles on Jan. 31, where she’s been asked to speak.
In a statement, executive producer Al Jean denies any connection between Scientology and the series: “The Simpsons does not, and never has, endorsed any religion, philosophy or system of beliefs any more profound than Butterfinger bars.” A spokesman at 20th Century Fox says the studio was told the calls have stopped and Fox has not taken any further action. It’s unclear how widely the voicemail was distributed.

I have been purposefully omitting making any comments on RF until I saw something on Scientology.
I love the Simpsons and I was raised by Matt Groening, so to speak. Once I even had a vivid dream where I imagined myself watching a full episode, including commercials. (Withdrawal is a bitch)
Despite attending the worldwide protests (chanology) and convincing at least 10 members (during free OT tests) to give it up and donate their time elsewhere; I think the “Church” is digging its own grave.
So ok, back in the day anyone could create their own hugely successful religion, fooling millions. But not in the age of reason, an era where all information is finally free. An age where the consumer has free choices and can finally leverage the true power of democracy. It may suck at first, as the evildoers try to compete, but I feel the truth will win out in the end.

The truth will never win out because humans are programed to follow the leader. Through several recent studies about partisan thought and group mentality one can conclude that since there will always be individuals of diminished intelligence and reasoning skills there will always be religions and cons. The only thing that could possibly stop such things is precise genetic engineering these problems out of the human condition. That, however, may not ever be seen if the zealots have anything to do it. If something as simple as stem cell research can be dramatically crippled, what would the hope of genetically engineering people have?
