It is my personal belief that both sides of this conflict have yet to provide a sophisticated and logical argument. The first and foremost error that I see is the abundance of bare assertion fallacy, meaning that both sides argue they are right simply because they say they are right. On top of this there are multiple cases of stereotyping, name-calling, and threatening.
To find an excellent example of stereotyping, one simply has to look at the comment made by one Reverend Kentex, who says “you are the most repressing people in the world, and every time somebody gives you a little shit, you resort to suicide-bombings and terrorism…” with this sentence, Kentex makes the assumption that all peoples of the Islamic faith promote the act of terrorism against those that insult their prophet. This, however, is blatantly and obviously untrue. I myself live in an extraordinarily diverse culture and have met hundreds of Islamic people, none of whom have supported any bombings, murders, or homicides committed by radical terrorists.
However the term “radical terrorist” is very loose, and could refer to any number of types of people depending on who defines it. Which bring me to name-calling. This ones easy. look at almost any post and you will find “Muslims are just angry violent people” or “ALLAH HAS NO TOLERANCE FOR IGNORANT BASTARDS LIKE YOU”. I believe it should be self-evident as to why this is poor debate, as it is not debate at all. It is simply attempting to to make ones opinion the most noticed, and to attack the opponent.
I found that both sides used threats as a method of expressing opinion. Such as the threat to create an anti-Islam documentary, and the many “burn in hell” threats.
I would be very interested to see a legitimate debate using logic, and, being willing to accept defeat.
