UPDATE: A winner has been chosen.
This is the permanent home for the Hamshahri Holocaust cartoons. Hamshahri is the major newspaper in Iran and has sponsored a competition through IranCartoon.com to produce the "best" Holocaust cartoons in response to the infamous Muhammed Caricatures that were posted in the Danish newspaper. More cartoons will be added as they appear. Now, as with the Muhammed caricatures, please feel free to leave if your easily offended. I am showing these cartoons because I feel they are an important indicator of the ignorance that exists in our society as a result of religion and intolerance. The newest entries will be displayed on top.

To the best of my knowledge this is NOT an official entry, but a cartoon that was posted by the Arab European League in response to the Muhammed Caricatures.
It appears that this cartoon was NOT submitted for the competition as was previously thought. However, Australian cartoonist Michael Leunig does take credit for making it. He drew it in 2002 as a response to the Israeli occupation of Palestine. CNN has reported this now.

I`d like to say all Muslim: I`m so sorry for publications Mahomet`s caricatures. I`m shy that Polish editor publised it also. It offened me too, although I`m Catholic. I don`t say to nobody that my religion is the best, `cos my religion it`s only my business. I respect feelings all people, I`ve got friends different religion and we never quarrel on this theme. I invate to Poland, to OÅ›wiÄ™cim, Stuthoff, Treblinka… Everybody who will see, will understand what means holocaust… I saw it :((, it`s terrible what can do people… My uncle was in Dachau in Germany, and when he back home, he said us what done “SS”…

Tasteless cartoons like these are published throughout the middle east permanently and in big newspapers, with or without muhammed cartoons – welcome at reality folks!
And then, take a look at the original muhammed cartoons, I guess most people who talk about them didnt have seen them at all.
In some of them muhammed is not even pictured, and one cartoon jokes about the people from jyllands post rather then islam or muhammed.
The Michael Leunig cartoon has been denounced by Michael Leunig as a fake and not submitted by him. It has now been removed from the Hamshahri website.
So who did submit it and why?

I´m definetly not a moslem (born catholic) but I have to say Congratulations to all those guys who started “Holocaust Cartoons”. This was the only answer to those jewish attacks. Keep us updated…

I’m beginning to think that I’m the only one who can look at a satirical religious cartoon and not get pissed about it. Political cartoons are drawn to make a statement – for the cartoons published in Denmark it portrays the symbol of Islam (Muhammed) because that is a universal figure for Islam. By having him doing these things, i.e. carrying a bomb under his turban, etc., it is meant to show the ridiculousness of the idea that people will blow themselves up and hurt others under the guise of a religion that truthfully is aiming for peace.
The same goes for all organized religions – Christians have their Crusades, Jews have their ancient Israeli battles amongst the original tribes as well as the conflict in Israel/Palestine (remember, war is a double-edged sword).
Every religion has had their zealot moments and all will continue to do so until time ends. Let the cartoons go people – they are meant to get you riled up AND show you how ridiculous the event pictured is.
Bottom line, don’t get pissed because Mohammed has a bomb under his hat, Israel is simulating a neo-Auschwitz (in a very vague way), or Jesus is hanging on a cross while an American soldier guns some children holding sticks; just realize that this isn’t what was meant to happen by any of these religion’s founding law. Also remember that in all cases murder is taboo, even murder done while screaming a god’s name.

For a Denmark newspaper to publish the cartoons was deeply insulting to Muslims. Muhammed is not to be portrayed – Islam is not a religion of icons (compare to the frequent depictions of Christ; only one of the many differences between Christianity and Islam).
The complicating part of this issue is not whether the Denmark paper should have posted them – they are protected by free speech. But for the government to issue no formal statement on the cartoons is the most insulting. No recognition of the insult added to the initial injury.
I am actually very impressed that the American press has, for the large part, stayed away from publishing the photos. Credit given to the American media.
I think the response from the Iranian newspaper is extreme. However, under free speech ideals I’m not going to say it shouldn’t be done. The submissions that make genuine political statements should be praised; the ones suggesting that the holocaust never existed or was not a serious crime should be denounced, just as the denmark newspaper’s cartoons have.
