Question 14

Question: Do deists base their beliefs on evidence or a lack thereof? How amenable are they to scientific facts? –Elliott

Answer: My personal Deism is very amenable to scientific facts.  I reject quite a few things on the lack of evidence, but am always open to the possibility that they might actually exist.  If someone could, with verifiable and testable evidence present a peer-reviewed theory that overturns evolution, I would gladly take that person seriously.  If someone could show me that, by indisputable proof there was no god, I’d gladly accept.  Some may see this as having no conviction, but I view it as having conviction in the idea that we have not figured everything out yet and that I may have to learn to adapt my mind to new things.

    Elliott Says:

I don’t see it as having no conviction I’m basically the same I just lean the other way.

I claim atheist because I don’t believe god exists. I’m more agnostic because I can’t know absolutely. Believers like to jump on that qualification like it proves their point and I despise letting them think they’ve won some concession from me.

Not saying you would act like that :-) just my general experiences.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.
