Question 9
Question: Do you believe abortion of a lifeless clump of cells is murder? How about the morning after pill? –Your Father
Answer: Morning-after pills to me are just another level of contraception. They prevent the egg cell and sperm cells from fusing. These two cells have been given way more importance than necessary by religious organizations. The sperm cell possesses almost no sub-cellular structures and is nothing more than a motile conveyance of Genetic material (similar to a virus if one thinks about it). Contraception is not wrong and in fact allows humans to engage in one of the most pleasurable acts with safety.
Abortion to me is a little odd. I feel that if the fetus could reasonably survive outside of the mother, then perhaps there should be another option taken. Before that point, I would consider the fetus a part of the mother’s body as to remove it from the mother would result in almost immediate death of the tissue, much like what would happen if my arm were lopped of. Without the blood I provide it, it just dies, having no ability to get oxygen and food on its own.

Abortion is rarely performed after the 15th - 16th week, not exactly what we would call ‘could live on it’s own’.

by that reasoning it would be ok to remove the fetus even at 30 weeks…

Actually, it’s because later than that is dangerous for the woman.

There in is where my major concern in the abortion issue is. The health and safety of the fully formed, indisputably human woman. Some of the opponents to abortion clinics think that because we allow abortions by law that this is the only reason that women get them. Problem with that is, women were having them for a while before that, and the conditions for getting them then were horrible and unsanitary. Legalization didn’t create the want for them, but it did make the process safer for women.
