They are just cartoons and nothing more. Comments will be enabled on here so please feel free to leave them. Keep it civil and please don’t storm my website with RPGs and machine guns. Oh, flag burning is unacceptable aswell. But feel free to boycot my site as that is a peaceful means of protest.

There is no freedom of expression within the Islamic religion. Do we have to pay the cost for our freedoms not to express our opinions or ideas?

Its obvious that the muslim world could care less what happens to anyone outside of their religion. Look how they hate Jews Christians and anything “Western”. One little cartoon and theyre ready for an all out holy war and theyre ready to take it out on anyone western who is close and convieniently available for a good old fashioned kidnapping. They are not at war but they are looking for any excuse to have one. So many of them think that we are out to get them that the Islamic media feeds on it like American media feeds on sensationalism. Even the so called “moderate” muslim countries such as Egypt had stories talking about how we have infested the heart of the arab world with our troops and they should do what they can to retaliate. It incites the very violence that caused 9/11. Im tired of this crap. Its gonna get a lot worse before it gets any better. If they want their holy war then lets give it to them with a heavy hand like the world has never seen. In the immortal words of that famous boxing ring announcer, I say to all muslim radical idiots out there “Lets Get It On” !!

    Marcus Says:

i agree with #7 to an extent. some others, like #5, merely worry me. hopefully we won’t have people like that in power.

this was never about freedom of speech or expression, even though that is what jyllands posten claimed. most of us would agree that newspapers should have the right to publish what they wish (although, to be fair, that could potentially give you years in prison in countries like australia with their new anti-sedition laws. not for printing mohammed caricatures mind you, but for criticising the government). that, however, does not change the fact that this was an extremely disrespectful way of making a point. that they should have the right to publish something like this does not mean that they should even take it into consideration!

furthermore, the point made that islam is a violent religion is misguided - true, the koran does justify it at times. but so does our own holy book - the old testament gives us premission, nay orders us to kill for the most absurd reasons. and whether or not we do so in the name of God and religion, we in the christian part of the world are responsible for many more deaths than muslims ever will be. and we are, of course, in the priveliged position where, as far more powerful, we can always justify our own wrong-doings by officially declaring ‘war’, something not possible for a smaller muslim country since the outcome is never in much doubt.

this is by no means in defense of terrorism, but it is important to remember, nevertheless, that the 5000 or so who died at 9/11 were relatively few in comparison to the ca one million children who starved to death as a direct result of the first gulf war.

getting slightly off the point here. freedom of speech good, caricatures extremely bad judgement. respect to those cartoonist who used the opportunity to portray mohammed honestly but without insulting anyone.

    wd Says:

What would the world say if Christians in the United States took up arms in the streets and stormed the Iraq or Iran or Syrian embassies, pushing past guards, attempting to gain access to the dignitaries, ripped down their flag and burned it in the street as was done in Indonesia? They would be considered animals. Without a doubt the government would come down on them so fast, have them locked up so quick, that there may be a few churches on come Sunday morning. (Mind you no one gets locked up for burning the American Flag!)

Do they do this else where in an attempt to maintain peace and calm within the Islamic nations? No. They speak of how Islam is a religion of peace, which I believe deep down, is true, but the clerics do nothing to stop the violence. Pat Robertson’s crazy ass (let’s call him a Christian extremist for sake of argument) says someone is paying for their sins and America is forced to apologize, yet Islamic extremists regularly kidnap, torture, kill, all in international view and their governments do NOTHING.

I am not a religious man, so I find myself shocked that I am writing this but here goes…

America is built on freedom for all and acceptance of all, but when I am told I can’t say “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance, or I can’t say a morning prayer (or told to at least be discreet) in my workplace but a Muslim can throw down the prayer rug 6 times a day, what am I to think. Why is it that a spirited debate between a Christian and Muslim in this country is considered as hatred toward the Muslim, a lack of understanding and acceptance from the Christian? Why is it that I have to change my life, respect their ways, and they are allowed to figuratively spit in my face, and I have to accept it.

Again, I am in no way preaching one religion over another or in any way saying the violence solves anything, but I think if Christians around the world were to start doing to Muslims what they are BEING ALLOWED to do to the “infidels”, if some Christian extremists who actually do something rather that talk about it were to pop up, the climate of the world would change so fast we wouldn’t know what happened. Governments need to stand up around the world and quit apologizing to Muslims because they got they feelings hurt. You don’t see this kind of outrage when somebody makes fun Jesus or Abraham. You don’t see this kind of outrage when somebody makes fun of the Scientologists or their L Ron Hubbard. You don’t see this kind of outrage when people make of the Rastafarians smokin’ weed all day. Welcome to the world Islamic community, enjoy it and embrace it. We don’t hate you, but you have some serious housecleaning you need to do.

is freedom of speech humiliating a prophet?
some of you perphaps don’t know, I think,it is a must to believe all prophets and holy books in order to be Muslim.in this way Muslim believes and respects Jesus and Moses as much Muhammed(pbuh(peace be upon him)).if you search the meaning of Islam, you see peace. in Holy Quran Allah says “killing a person equals to killing all human being”.so it is forbidden.and terrorists are not the martyrs.all the things terrorists do under the name of Islam are not acceptable in Islam. theya are the people who dont understand Islam.but please if you have some question marks in your mind you about Islam should read Holy Quran.then criticize.do you know that Caliph Ali is chosen after Muhammed had died.and i think it is called freedom of speech.because there was an election

    Jovke Says:

I’m from Bosnia and I know what you’re talking about. You see, for muslims, it’s far worse to make fun of Mohammad “the great prophet” than cutting of “non-believer”’s heads with a knife. It’s just the way they are and everyone should know that.

I am sorry but I can not help saying “You guys suck!”

You all know that in order to have an opinion about a topic, one has to have knowledge about it.
Who has read the history of Islam? Who has read the life of the holy Muhammed from different sources?

Ones who just know to spit silly words about Muhammed or Islam should go to a well-known library and ask help from the librarian.

You guys (the ones who do not know anything but can not help preaching) think that those ugly being( I mean suicide bombers) are muslim. True lovers of Muhammed. They suck. They use Islam for their sake. So you think that every muslim is like them.

You guys heard about Mevlana Celladdin Rumi? If you want to learn even abit about Islam, take your time and read him. It is just a google search far from you.

So at the end, I beg pardon from the holy Muhammed about cursing you, because I could not help after reading your comments. I do not want to ashame him for just a silly issue.

May peace and happiness be all upon you guys.

Go get some knowledge about Islam before talking like that! How many REAL Muslims you know? Please respect our religion as we -the REAL Muslims- respect yours.
May the God’s forgiveness upon you.

Muslim do not need to worry about this cartoons, One cartoon will not reduce the greatness of Mohammed. An you will find so many people with the name of Mohammed in Jails for various crimes. if all think like this way, all Mohammed should be released from Jails. And it is important that Muslims has to condemn all violence done by Islimist terrorists, this will help the world to stand against this type of cartoons.

    Odihnson Says:

Thank you, I have been reading and hearing about these “inflamitory” cartoons for a bit now and am glad to be able to judge them for myself. If caroons are all it takes to inflame such hatred and passion, the strength of their faith truly must be quite weak, wether it be Muslim or any other faith.

I for one would be more insulted and inflamed by the men (majority are men) who violently impose their view of Islam upon the world by bombing, murders and other acts that cause as much harm to fellow Muslims as “infedels”. But thats just me a western Heathen.
The barbaric crimes against the Arab peoples and Islam by the U.S. and Israel are not a carte blanche for barbarism in return. Murder is not resistance. And it won’t win you any converts.

Just to make it clear; the fundamentals of Christianity does not preach killing and violence in any way shape or form. The crusades were not Christian but were done in the name of religion. Big difference. The fundamentals of Islam have great violence and evil within its basic doctrine. Mohammad was the original Islamic terrorist. He had no problem, along with other evils, in wiping out a whole tribe of innocent Jews in Medina. Of course to a Muslim there is no such thing as an innocent Jew.

  22. 22
    feti Says:

The crusades have never been successful ignorant. oh, If we do not mention the looting of Byzantine Constantinople with the pretext of helping it. Besides I didn’t know there are such a great amount or people in West abhoring Islam. Culprits are not the religions and the prophets; the real culprits are the ones who misinterpret and abuse them. Namely the living mortals. Not the ones who lived 1400 years ago.

Seeing the very big misunderstanding of Islam among the Westerns is so pitiful. I cannot understand who teached you those nonsenses. Islam is just a religion that orders its believers to be good, to love and help others; and not to lie, not to steal, NOT TO KILL. Every one who says I am Muslim cannot represent the whole Islam. We are all the humans and must understand each other right. We cannot reach anywhere with the antiquated quarrels.

  26. 26
    wd Says:

    >>Seeing the very big misunderstanding of Islam >>among the Westerns is so pitiful. I cannot >>understand who teached you those nonsenses.

I understand that it teaches not to kill, love and peace, etc, as does every religion known mankind. Westerners, while many ignorant of the story of Muhammed, are only asking why is that the governments of the countries where this activity takes place stand up. How about the formation of a group of Muslims to stand up and speak out against those who ruin the image of a loving religion in the eyes of the world. Not the destruction of an embassy of a country who won’t say I’m sorry for something they had nothing to do with. The world view, not only Westerners, is a sense of two-faced betrayal. Example: Iranian president can say all Jews must die in the name of Islam and no one, no other Islamic nation or Islamic group, true to the faith will step up, loudly and proudly, and say he is wrong.

    edet Says:

They are funny cartoons! I would like to se more of them! And the fact that people, sorry I meant muslims, are getting furious about it makes it hilarious. What a sad sad sense of humour they have. Pittyful.

  28. 28
    feti Says:

Yes, I agree Iranian president is wrong. But no one can say the deeds of Israelis or Americans are not wrong. The are all occupiers. I am sure you know something about Zionism. How did they come to Palestinian soil? How did UK and USA help them over and over. Constantly remembering the past. I did it too unfortunately. OK. For just one moment let us accept all you say is right. Does that give someone the right to revile others’ belief? Is insult a part or form of criticism?

To all you Muslims out there, I have a question: is Saddam Hussein a “real” Muslim? According to previous posts by apparent Islamic believers, I conclude he isn’t because of the murdering and assassinations he has performed or approved. According to one such post, “If you search the meaning of Islam, you see peace. in Holy Quran Allah says “killing a person equals to killing all human being”.” But I bet Saddam would swear on his life that he is a Muslim. Who is correct? Even further, the Qur’an has passages that firmly state to kill (non-believers). How is this unlike what Saddam has done? For example, chapter 4, verse 89 states: “They desire that you should disbelieve as they have disbelieved, so that you might be (all) alike; therefore take not from among them friends until they fly (their homes) in Allah’s way; but if they turn back, then seize them and kill them wherever you find them, and take not from among them a friend or a helper.” So how can you Muslims say Islam promotes peace if violence is there black and white in the Qur’an?

  33. 33
    murat Says:

before you publish this kind of a caricature you should ask an advisor how would muslim world accept ? the answer is simple we dont. so why to push 2 billion people feelings and beliefs ? no need is it a freedom of media no this is just a caricature but it is a humiliating one. it is better not to play with fire. there will be some believers will not accept it easily and then it is all muslims that are guilty .

In a civilized world freedom of speech should not be a guise for ridicule and blatent belittlement of a religious fugure. If lines are blured the essence of freedom of speech itself is denograted and abused for ulterior motives. This only saws the seeds of mistrust, contempt and suspicision.

For the sake of decency a line must be drawn.

I just have one question. What’s the big idea? There is so much to joke, write, and laugh about. I mean, lets get one thing straight, no one can deny that those cartoons are insulting to the person inside them (in that case prophet Muhammad). I’m not a radical Muslim, nor am I going to storm the EU with an RPG, but I still don’t see why this cartoonist chose this topic. I mean what did he expect? (how many smiles, at the cost of how many frowns) and even worse, what did those Norwegians expect, when they republished those cartoons, in support of “the freedom of press”! Come on people lets look at this issue as mature adults, for one minute. We all know this is a sensitive issue, after all we are talking about a religion here (Throughout history it was also religion that shaped the borders, and created most of the conflicts we faced through time). Ok, I, a Muslim, have to admit that due to educational limitations, among other things, some radical Muslims get carried away (I know most of you are going like, yeah right “some”, but actually radical Muslims are only a tiny faction of the 1.8billion, if you come to thing of it). Anyway back to my point, why did those Norwegians choose to advocate the freedom of press, through this stupid way. I mean there are so many other obvious, and easier ways that portray the repression of freedom of press in the Muslim world. Why choose this sensitive issue, a religion, and a PROPHET to convey that message? I DEFINITELY SUPPORT THE FREEDOM OF PRESS, but do NOT support the way some westerns have chosen to promote it today. I personally think Confucius would agree with me here, this is a classical case of killing a mosquito with a canon.

And we think that we are free to say that this guy called “peter” is a jack.ss dumb and jerky b.stard. I know that he’ll get angry with me when he hears these, but I do have the right to say these in my country (as well as the to record and post them on the web)! He can’t prevent me from talking (the way I want). Hey, who the hell is he? What? You wanna limit my freedom ha? F..k you Peter!”

I know that neither you nor your fellow citizens have sworn to Prophet Mohammed (p.b.u.h.). But these caricatures are percieved as offensive as swearwords because muslims love their prophet much more than themselves. According to them, these the caricature stuff simply is “blasphemy”.

Please think about this for a second and do not take it personal! I wrote the quote to ease your empathy. May the world be more peaceful and beneficent for all. Sincerely…

    nusrat Says:

God is a white senior citizen in the sky, with a never receding hairline, and a white beard. The lenght of the beard always differs a bit though, probably depending on the artists idea of God. Is it God according to the Old Testament? Is it a less judgemental God? Maybe a trimmed version? Most children, directors or illustrators delivers the God we know, based on an image delivered through centuries. Still a white beard hanging from a white face. And then there is Jesus, getting more pale every year. As pale as a palestinian in january. His hair and beard as blond as a miracle itself, unless God was an immigrant. Where is the difference in drawing the Kabaa through the eyes of the Prophet Muhammad instead of drawing The Prophet in front of it, preaching the Word of God? Does the Word of God loose importance if Muhammed, Prophet of God, expressed his sceptisism towards personified portraits in Hadith? That Muhammed was an arab, wearing a black beard, is now beyond doubt. Nonetheless, Allah is still gender- and colorless, if we are able to see beyond his white beard. Thank God.

muslims only knew that they were the descendents of Christian and Jewish men who were slaughtered and often beheaded, of women who were forced into harems as slaves or polygamist marriages, of ancestors torn from their Christian parents as children, indoctrinated by their murderous kidnappers, would these millions of muslims across North Africa, Asia Minor, and much of the Middle East, really rally to defend a caricature of their evil prophet? Those who defend him are the ignorant ones. They are afraid to look at their own history or the history of this man’s legacy. In the West we fear public opinion. In the Muslim world seeking, speaking, and following the truth will cost you your life.

That´s the point with “Freedom od spech”
In my country Sweden our law was founded in 1800 and reewritten in 1947.
This is the laws that my ancestors fougt for.
Everybody are free to write and print what they whant as long as we keep in the limits of the law.
Papers / magazinses has a publisher that are responsible for this, who can be put behind bars if they publish somthing that is aginst the law.
The point is .. there is no law against writing
    Muhammed caricatures.. or any caricature…
So if you are offended .. that´s your business .. not mine.
In Sweden/Denmark the law is prior to religion..
And if sombody tell us what to publish or not publish .. he is the one who is breaking the law. Is difficult to understand ?
    That´s freedom for me..

However, there is certainly freedom in America to deride Christ. This is done every day on Broadway, and every other day in Hollywood. Americans do not take up arms in protest. Derisory material at the expense of Jews is permitted only if the executioner is a Jewish comedian. [...]

Most of the non-Muslim westerners have a psychosis, the islamophobia. The caricatures is an offspring of that psychosis and an action against not only to the holy Prophet Muhammad (pboh),but against the ‘holy’,in Greek language ‘ΙΕΡΟΝ’.Most of the westerners they have loose any reverence for the Life, for God,for the humanfellows. There is not any problem with the freedom of speech or thought because all the Muslims are against the attack of a lot of ‘Christian’ origin newspapers and magazines against Prophet Muhammad (pboh),this is a pseudodilemma. The Muslims and other Christians, such as Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomaeus,we support the sence of the ‘HOLY’ in our everydaylife and ofcourse we support the human rights and the right of the freedom of speech and of the thought.

He preached a religion, founded a state, built a nation, laid down a moral code, initiated numberless social and political reforms, established a dynamic and powerful society to practice and represent his teachings, and he revolutionized the worlds of human thought and human action for all time.

His name was Muhammad (peace and blessings of Almighty Creator be upon him)-and he accomplished all these wonders in the unbelievably short span of twenty-three years.

Muhammad (pbuh) was born in Arabia in 570 CE, and when he died at the age of 63, the whole of the Arabian Peninsula had changes from paganism and idol worship to the worship of One God; from tribal quarrels and wars to national solidarity and cohesion; from drunkenness and debauchery to sobriety and piety; from lawlessness and anarchy to disciplined living; from utter moral bankruptcy to the highest standards of moral excellence. Human history has never known such a complete transformation of a people or a place before or since.

The Encyclopedia Britannica calls him “the most successful of all religious personalities of the world.” Bernard Shaw said, “if Muhammad (pbuh) were alive today, he would succeed in solving all those problems which threaten to destroy human civilization in our times.” Thomas Carlysle was amazed as to how one man, single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades. Napoleon and Gandhi never tired of dreaming of a society along the lines established by this man in Arabia fourteen centuries ago.

Indeed no other human being ever accomplished so much, in such diverse fields of human thought and behavior, in so limited a space of time, as did Muhammad (pbuh). He was a religious teacher, a social reformer, a moral guide, a political thinker, a military genius, an administrative colossus, a faithful friend, a wonderful companion, a devoted husband, a loving father-all in one. No other man in history ever excelled or equaled him in any of these difficult departments of life.

The world has had its share of great personalities. But these were one-sided figures who distinguished themselves in but one or two fields, such as religious thought or military leadership. None of the other great leaders of the world ever combined within himself so many different qualities to such an amazing level of perfection as did Muhammad (pbuh).

The lives and teachings of other great personalities of the world are shrouded in the mist of time. There is so much speculation about the time and the place of their birth, the mode and style of their life, the nature and detail of their teachings and the degree and measure of their success or failure that it is impossible for humanity today to reconstruct accurately and precisely the lives and teachings of those men.

Not so this man Muhammad (pbuh). Not only was he born in the fullest blaze of recorded history, but every detail of his private and public life, of his actions and utterances, has been accurately documented and faithfully preserved to our day. The authenticity of the information so preserved is vouched for not only by faithful followers but also by unbiased critics and open-minded scholars.

At the level of ideas there is no system of thought and belief-secular or religious, social or political -which could surpass or equal ISLAM-the system which Muhammad (pbuh) propounded. In a fast-changing world, while other systems have undergone profound transformations, Islam alone has remained above all change and mutation, and retained its original form for the past 1400 years. What is more, the positive changes that are taking place in the world of human thought and behavior truly and consistently reflect the healthy influence of Islam in these areas.

It is not given to the best of thinkers to put their ideas completely into practice, and to see the seeds of their labors grow and bear fruit in their own lifetime. Except of course, Muhammad (pbuh), who not only preached the most wonderful ideas but also successfully translated each one of them into practice. At the time of his death his teachings were not mere precepts and ideas straining for fulfillment. They had become the very core of the life of tens of thousands of perfectly trained individuals. At what other time or place and in relation to what other political, social, religious system, philosophy or ideology-did the world ever witness such a perfectly amazing phenomenon? Except of course, ISLAM, which was established as a complete way of life by Muhammad (pbuh)himself. History bears testimony to this fact and the greatest skeptics have no option but to concede this point.

In spite of the phenomenal success which crowned his efforts, he did not for a moment claim to be God or God’s incarnation or Son -but only a human being who was chosen and ordained by the Creator to be a teacher of truth to mankind and a complete model and pattern for their actions.

He was a man with a noble and exalted mission -and his unique mission was to unite humanity in the worship of the One and only God and to teach them the way to honest and upright living in accordance with the laws and commands of God. He always described himself as a Messenger and servant of God, as indeed every single action and movement of his proclaimed him to be.

A world which has not hesitated to raise to Divinity individuals whose very lives and missions have been lost in legend and who, historically speaking, did not accomplish half as much-or even one tenth-as was accomplished by Muhammad (pbuh), should stop to take serious note of this remarkable man’s claim to be God’s messenger to mankind.

Today, after the lapse of some 1400 years, the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), have survived without the slightest loss, alteration or interpolation. Today they offer the same undying hope for treating mankind’s many ills which they did when Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was alive. This is our honest claim and this is the inescapable conclusion forced upon us by a critical and unbiased study of history.

The least YOU should do as a thinking, sensitive, concerned human being is to stop for one brief moment and ask yourself: Could it be that these statements, extraordinary and revolutionary as they sound, are really true? Supposing they really are true, and you did not know this man Muhammad (pbuh) or hear about his teachings? Or did not know him well and intimately enough to be able to benefit from his guidance and example? Is it not time you responded to this tremendous challenge and made some effort to know him? It will not cost you anything but it may well prove to be the beginning of a completely new era in your life.

Come, let us make a new discovery, the life of this wonderful man Muhammad (pbuh), the like of whom never walked on this earth, and whose example and teachings can change YOUR life and OUR world for the better. May God shower His choicest blessings upon him!

The Muslims continue to shock me that any group this size can be as universally stupid as most of them seem to be. The time that they spend with their heads down with their butts in the air is only exceeded by the time spent running around swinging rifles and shooting into the air.

Their treatment of women and intolerance of other faiths is a window into their misguided beliefs.

Could the “real” offense be that the cartoons hit too close to home?

In my ignorance, liberty and democracy -freedom of speech in particular- do not and must not give anybody to trespass others’ rights and values. Depicting Prophet Mohammad in such inappropriate caricatures that create in the minds of the peoples of the world a totally wrong image of Islam is not only a disrespect towards him or the Muslim world, but also a provocation that would deepen the disputes between civilisations. The word “Islam” means “Peace” in Arabic and one of the fundamentals of being Muslim constitutes that you accept and claim all the previous prophets including Jesus, Moses and David (who are sacred to Jews and Christians) as the prophets sent by God, and denying their prophethood or disrespect of any kind towards them means that you are no more a Muslim. We, Muslims, respect all prophets and a “true Muslim” knows that s/he cannot kill any living creature (not only humans) unless they aim and try to kill them. Individual and/or organised forms of terrorist attacks cannot have nothing to do with Islam and a true view of the religion should be gained through original written materials such as the Holly Qoran. Jewish and Christian citizens of the state during Mohammad’s governance depict the best view of his, thus Islam’s view of human rights and freedom of belief. No obligation was and has been sought for non-Muslims to convert Islam. It is clearly stated in the Holly Qoran (ayah: Qafiroon) that everybody is free to choose what to believe and they must not interfere with each other’s belief. As a Muslim brother of yours (of whatever religious background you are), I would truly like to state how upset I am in the presence of lunatic and totally non-Muslim image of several fundamentalist activists around the world, ensure you that they are but a bunch of terrorist who claim they stand for Islam. Islam (Peace) does not order people to kill or die, but envisages a world of order and peace in which all the creation of God must merely focus of God’s art in the universe and find the answer to the question: “Why did I come to this world?”. Islam’s answer to the question is “to look and see the wonders of God and behave in the way He would be content with us.”.

A person above said: “In a civilized world freedom of speech should not be a guise for ridicule and blatent belittlement of a religious fugure…For the sake of decency a line must be drawn.”

True, but the operative word here is “civilized”. In a civilized world, the publishing of some tasteless cartoons several months in the past would not cause the kind of fists-raised, get the c-4 out Mama, burning and violence that is happening now. For the sake of decency and civilization a line should be drawn, between people who are confident in their beliefs and who can turn the other cheek, and barbarians who are shown the mirror of public opinion and explode into the kind of violence their religion supposedly forbids. The truth hurts, and these people are killing the messenger.

In other words, if no one saw the cartoons, they could hardly be construed as a crime against Islam or Muslims. Do we risk beheading at the hands of radical fundamentalists just for seeing these harmless caricatures ? Muslims demand our “respect” for their religion. OK fine, then how about a little respect for our principles governing freedom of speech and the right to criticize anything we believe needs criticizing. If we didn’t need these cartoons before, we sure need them now.

I am a muslim living in the Middle East. I am against all sorts of violence. Therefore, I do not approve of the overreaction displayed by the people in the street. However, me must try to understand them. First of all, those who overreact are all poor people. It is what always happens. The caricatures of the prophet just ignited the fire already burning inside. To me, they are reacting because they have long been suppressed… because the US invaded Iraq to bring so-called “freedom” and the west did not go against what the US did. Those who react are not well-educated. So, in the final analysis, all what’s happening now is related to economic problems and the suppression and the threat to the Middle East. When you ask anyone who participate in the violent demonstrations in the Middle East now, he or she may say that s/he is doing it because there is an attack over the prophet because s/she believes that that is the reason though there are more serious reasons behind. In conclusion, whatever happens, we must be against all kinds of violence and support peace all over the world.

To Peter and the others who are interested,

I believe we are still in the “Middle Age”. This is the picture when you look at the invasion of the weak by the strong, abuse of power, camouflaged violation of international law by the strong, the unbeliaveably rich on one side and those starving on the other side. Destruction of the historical sites and all the heritage of mankind in just seconds, irreversible pollution and the fast-coming “doomsday” due to the damages mainly caused by globally-dominant companies supported by such “people” as George W. Bush and J. Blair. What will save us is not Islam or Christianity but common values of mankind, peace and attachment of more importance to nature. To me, Islam is just a religion and should not be the determinant of our relations with others. Religion should be something private and personal. Unfortunately, as long as millions of people do not have the same opportunities as the others in terms of life conditions, I mean, as long as big masses of people are poor, uneducated and suffer from all sorts of problems and as long as the minority rules, the “middle age” will not come to an end. It is not Islam or Christianity that will save the world, but it is economic welfare, preservation of nature, art and literature, mutual tolerance and understanding… We must support peace whatever happens. Nothing can be an excuse to attack a person. However, I am not so optimistic. What’s happening now will not come to an end soon. You see, the US is now threatening Iran. I do not like what’s happening in Iran, either, but, as I said, nothing can be an excuse to attack another person. However, I do not believe that “nuclear threat from Iran” is not the real reason of what the US and Europe wants to do to Iran in near future. The Iraq invasion is the evidence of what the real reason is. All I say is in vain, I know that. I wish I had the power to stop all the violence.

Due to the fact that those concerned have recieved such a tremendous volume of criticizm that they have become insensitivie to any comments condemning their actions, the means employed by the Danish are fully legitimate. In my opinion, religion has become a mere facade employed by those who wish to moblize masses in order to achieve a self-benefitting ultimate goal. For this reason, i go on to conclude that many of those ‘offended’ by such ungraceful depictions of the prophet, are, in reality, using the cartoons to fuel the sentiment of bitter injustice used by fundamentalists in order to highlight the need of muslim unity against the ‘corrupt world’. Little is what it is labelled.

    REPLY TO MUSLIM:
I agree with you when it comes to defining the causes of conflict in the world. however, you can’t deny the fact that that which you consider a cause of the lamentable situation in the world today is embedded in each and every one of us. it is human nature to stay on top, and the impossiblity for humans to overcome this character traight can be clearly seen in the failure of communism; destined to provide equality and well fare for all people, it only painted the picture of a world of equal opportunities. it did not take people long (on a global scale) to notice the narrowness of their paradigm, and once again, conflict errupted. these causes will never disappear and there will always be a causes of discontent and causes for warfare. Humans are insatiable- so aspirations of world peace are, i dare to say, unacomplishable.

Muslims pronounce that Islam preaches peace. Outwardly most Muslims denounce terrorism and fanaticism. Inwardly the reverse is evident – the worldwide Muslim reaction to these cartoons enforces this argument. The real question is what is the world to do? The recent state of the union address answered this question: eliminate dependency on Middle East oil. A quarantine of the entire area can then be possible.

When there are multinational companies which benefit from the conflict between the west and the east plus such ignorant people from both sides who say “A quarantine of the entire area…” (#119 must be a medical doctor without a diploma because both the diagnosis and the suggested treatment are wrong), “who drawed this caricatures..all you will die” (I hope such people #117 will never be in power; otherwise the situation which is already bad would go worse), “and if you muslims hate us in the west stop accepting all the money we are sending you. and stay in you’re own countries and those who lives in the west world can leave if they dont like us” (#111 is a poor analyst because he or she doesn’t know history. How has the west become rich? Slaves, colonies… And the US in Iraq now. Why?), unfortunately peace is something utopic. Utopic though peace is, we must go for it.

From the comments I see that mostly you (people of western world) are talking about Islam when you know very little information about it ,you exert no efforts to know what great things you are talking about ,only insult and offnsive caricatures ,and when your people of war are killing of thousands of innocent children and women pretending to free them, you say nothing .
but when some muslims who had there parents and children killed take revenge (like most humans do),you are heart-broken and can not sleep until you get those (so-called bastards).
I advise you to know more about Islam and muslims and not to accuse them now and then and at least it is all for your sake

I grew up in Iran and came to the U.S. 12 years ago and enrolled in Georgetown University. I now have a graduate degree in Political Science and also Business (MBA). I have my own trading company handling imports/exports with the Far East. Unlike most other Muslims I am educated and understand the ways of both Islam and the Western World. I love America and the opportunities that I have been given here. Had I stayed in Iran my future would be very limited. Living in a country of true freedom where I can say and do what I wish has been a wonderful experience for me. I will never again live in the Middle East and now question the teachings of Mohammad after seeing the violence that other Muslims try to justify in the name of Islam. I am married to an American who is a Christian and have had an opportunity to learn about the teachings of another religion. I find it very interesting the Christians in the U.S. are far more peaceful and loving than most Muslims that I know. Although I consider myself still Muslim I am ashamed of the violence and ignorance that my fellow Muslims portray. I pray that someday the clergy and politics in the Middle East can be separated and only then can true progress and enlightenment follow. Finally…the cartoons do not provoke me. Freedom of speech is fundamental to a free society. This is of course very difficult for most Muslims to understand. My advise to my fellow Muslims is to stop the idiotic threats, flag burning, firing guns in the air, marching in the streets and looking very foolish to the rest of the world. Respect is not a right, even for Muslims, it’s an earned privilege.
